THE CARDINAL GROSBEAK
[Northern Cardinal.]
PITYLUS CARDINALIS , Linn.
Cardinalis cardinalis.
PLATE CCIII.MALE, AND FEMALE. In richness of plumage, elegance of motion, and strength of song, this species surpasses all its kindred in the United States. It is known by the names of Red-bird, Virginia Nightingale, Cardinal-bird, and that at the head of the present article. It is very abundant in all our Southern States, as well as in the peninsula of the Floridas. In the western country a great number are found as far up on the Ohio as the city of Cincinnati, and they extend to considerable distances into Indiana, Illinois and Missouri. They are found in the maritime districts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, where they breed, and where a few remain the whole year; some are also seen in the State of New York, and now and then a straggler proceeds into Massachusetts; but farther eastward this species has never been observed. This fine songster relishes the interior of the forest, and the heart of the deepest cane-brakes or retired swamps, as well as the neighbourhood of cities. It is constantly found in our fields, orchards and gardens; nay, it often enters the very streets of our southern towns and villages to breed; and it is rare that one goes into a planter's yard without observing the Red-bird skipping about the trees or on the turf beneath them. Go where it may, it is always welcome, and every where a favourite, so rich is its song, and so brilliant its plumage.

Color, the Chameleon of the Web
Where to Study Color This is a start! After a years of research and occasional input from our website visitors, we came up with a preliminary list of educational institutions that offer courses in color. By no means is it a complete list ... but it's a beginning. If we don't have a listing for your state or country, it's due to the fact that we haven 't turned up anything...and this is purely volunteer work on our part. Please help with this list! Submit the name and url of the school or university that offers a dedicated course in color. In other words, a specific course in color . Science, art....any discipline. A url for the course or Art/Design Department is required. us. Subscribe to the free Color Matters Newsletter! Cick Here! This list is provided solely as a reference. We do not endorse any of the following institutions and do not have any information regarding accreditation, certification, etc . Australia Douglas Mawson Institute of Technology (TAFE) Colour Studies University of theSunshine Coast - Queensland Offers numerous courses that include the colour theory and research.

    A. Employment Skills You Gain With a Liberal Arts Education
Women's studies provides you with all the benefits of a liberal arts degree. Liberal arts education emphasizes critical thinking, which can be applied to a multitude of careers. It demonstrates to a potential employer that you have the confidence, skills, and maturity to earn a college degree; that you are well-rounded, having studied a wide variety of topics rather than one narrow skill area; that you likely are able to think more globally than many other job applicants. Managers often prefer liberal arts majors because they think they are better at organizing material, writing well, and making oral presentations. Moreover, a Women's Studies major equips you with significant additional advantages... B. Additional Employment Skills You Gain With a WS Degree

[../cgwebcomponent.htm] City Commission William I. May, Jr. Mayor
Frankfort native William I. May, Jr. took office as Mayor of Kentucky’s capital city on January 1, 1996. Mayor May was elected to a second term and took office January 1, 2000, making him the first Mayor to succeed himself since the 1800’s.
Mayor May was born March 19, 1959. He is a graduate of Frankfort High School and Kentucky State University.
Community service has been an important part of life for Mayor May. He believes it is important to have a strong community where there are opportunities for all of Frankfort’s citizens. Mayor May and his family pull the community together annually to sponsor “Coats for Kids”, a project that provides brand new winter coats for all school children in need in Frankfort and Franklin County. In 1987, Mayor May was awarded the Community Service Award for “Coats for Kids”, but he is quick to point out that this is a project where everyone makes it a success.
Some of the civic organizations Mayor May has been involved with include Frankfort Rotary Club, Frankfort/Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America District Chairman, Salvation Army of Frankfort Advisory Board, Frankfort Jaycees - President, Frankfort Arts Foundation - Board of Directors, P. U. S. H. Infant and Preschool - Board of Directors, Capitol Expo - Board of Directors.
Public safety, youth, senior citizens, the arts and neighborhood drainage problems are some of the issues Mayor May has worked hard to address during his tenure as Mayor. Mayor William I. May, Jr. is committed to making Frankfort one of the safest, most livable cities in America, where everyone has an equal opportunity for success.

During the first year, the initiative focus was to provide assistance to 5 states. The ICMA, LGC, and NGA worked in partnership to support active living leadership strategies in California, Kentucky, Michigan, Colorado, and Washington. In August 2003, three new organizations joined the partnership – NACo, NCSL, and USCM – and Active Living Leadership activities were expanded to serve local and state leaders across the nation. While Active Living Leadership will continue to support some activities specific to particular regions or states, the Active Living Leadership Project will primarily focus on providing education and resources for local and state officials to foster sustainable active living policies, programs and places in communities across the country.
    Kentucky
ICMA is currently working with several local communities to assist them in engaging in active living strategies. NGA is also available to provide free technical assistance, such as expert training or sample best practices, to Kentucky's state leaders upon request. Survey Bridge study bypasses regional board By Michael Collins Post Washington Bureau WASHINGTON At some point, it became obvious to regional planners studying transportation needs along Interstate 75 that the aging Brent Spence Bridge would have to undergo major repairs or perhaps even be replaced. So they began lobbying the federal government to put up $2 million to study the bridge's future. But when Congress approved the request, the funds went to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, not to the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments, the local agency responsible for all transportation planning in the three-state region. The decision upset local planners, who instead of being the lead player now find themselves relegated to an advisory role just as the bridge study is about to begin. "We were not pleased," said Jim Duane, executive director of OKI. "We felt we had offered a reasonable timeline to complete this project, and we felt that it would be better for OKI to conduct (the study)."
