I used this book to help me learn the forms given, and found it very useful. I have since lent it to other students, who were similarly helped. The pictures demonstrate the techniques very clearly. The one lack is that the patterns are somewhat difficult to follow as far as direction - this requires careful reading of the text, but diagrams would have helped.

At the same time, due to increased work in my busy law office, my only daylight training time was 6:45am- 7:20am hardly enough to even break a sweat. Going alone to Health clubs bored me, yet I needed a change in

Can Professional Basketball Play In Peoria? Can a professional basketball team succeed in Peoria? The organizers of a new league think it can. Eric Dunn of the International Basketball League was in town Tuesday discussing plans for a 2005 start up. Peoria would be one of about a dozen teams in the new league which Dunn says would survive by keeping salaries and travel costs low. "Let's say a team from Oregon or Washington comes out - they'll play in one weekend a team in Peoria, they'll play a team in Decatur, they'll play a team in Joliet, they'll play a team in Aurora, and that will be all in a weekend's time. The plan for the beginning of the 2005 season is each team will play 20 games. You play 10 home games, you'll play 6 games that are within close proximity and then you have one long road trip," said Dunn. BUSHIDO ( SAMURAI SPIRIT = Chivalry ) is a flower no less indigenous to soil of Japan than its emblem, the cherry blossom. The conditions of society which brought it forth and nourished it have long disappeared; but as those far-off stars which once were and are not, still continue to shed their rays upon us, so the light of BUSHIDO which was a child of feudalism, still illuminates our moral path, surviving its mother institution.
KABUKI
Kabuki originated in the early Edo period, when a woman called Okuni of Izumo performed a Buddhist dance in an unusual costume in Kyoto. the dance was later deemed morally unacceptable, and woman were prohibited from performing it. Instead, only adult men were allowed to perform. This custom has been maintained in present-day kabuki.
No originated in the art of dengaku(ritual field music and dance) and sarugaku (mimic plays) in the kamakura era; which developed as music-plays incorporating beautiful music and dance in the Muromachi era. Kyougen, on the other hand, is comedic drama. UKIYO-E
A genre painting popular among the common people during the Edo period (1600-1868). Ukiyu means "pleasure-seeking," or "sensual" in Japanese, and this world was actually the subject of paintings called Ukiyo-e.Most Ukiyo-e were prints that could be mass-produced. Drawings were rare.

It is often said that competition (shiai) is a very minor part of Karate or that it is unimportant in the overall context of training. To some extent, this almost relegates a significant aspect of training to a position of irrelevance. It may be true that training specifically with shiai in mind and thereby ignoring everything else is not the correct approach, however a good argument could be made that shiai practice is a prominent and very important aspect of JKA training. The establishment of the Japan Karate Association over half a century ago almost coincides with the formulation by the JKA of a set of competitive rules to test the efficacy of the various techniques (waza) in a combat simulated situation for Kumite and in an individual display of Karate skills in Kata. In other words, shiai has been around nearly as long as the JKA itself. Indeed the first JKA all Japan Championships took place in 1958. Since that time the rules have been modified only slightly, signifying their longevity by standing the test of time. A good indication of the success of any set of competition rules is the results achieved under those rules over an extended period A good indication of the success of any set of competition rules is the results achieved under those rules over an extended period. In terms of outright sports such as Soccer or Athletics, deciding a winner is relatively easy and for the most part, no-one questions the outcome. For example, with very few exceptions, the winner of the FIFA world cup Soccer event is the best team of the tournament, likewise the winner of the Olympic 100 metres sprint race is the fastest person competing in the event. In JKA competition, the same degree of consistency is present among the winners. It is very rare indeed for an inexperienced player or one without a best-in-tournament level of speed, timing and clean waza to repeatedly emerge as champion.

Welcome to Christian Taekwondo Academy
Here at Kent's Christian Taekwondo Academy we teach traditional Taekwondo based on over 2,000 years of Korean tradition. Taekwondo means the way of the foot and fist. Literally, Taekwondo practitioners are equally adept with hand strikes and kicking techniques.
Taekwondo is famous for its powerful leaping and spinning kicks, though students also learn close hand fighting, throws, joint manipulation and other basic elements of self defense. The style of Taekwondo we teach was founded by General Choi Hong Hi in the 1950s when he unified the various styles into one Korean martial arts.
Kent's Christian Taekwondo Academy teaches this martial art with emphasis on the art.
History of Mr. Kent
Mr. Harold Kent started training in the art of Taekwondo in 1976 under Mr. Richard Hoadley under ATA. After receiving his black belt he enrolled in ATA's Instructor Training Program. Mr. Kent tested under Master H.U. Lee, Master Soon Hoo Lee, and many other high ranking Leaders famous today. After the break up of the ATA many students felt loyal to their Instructors and followed them and they became members of the USTA which is still around today. Karate phenom Elisa Au on being World Champ, Italy, and New Year's Resolutions
By Chris Gregor // usolympicteam.com
January 24, 2003 Elisa Au recently became only the second American to become karate World Champion. She captured the 60+ kg. kumite world title in Madrid, Spain to go along with gold at both the Pan American Championship and the 2003 US Nationals. Currently she lives in Hawaii, and she's a member of Honolulu's International Karate Federation. Not only does she train there, she also teaches some of the younger children the finer parts of karate. Au is one of three women representing the U.S. in karate at the Titan Games (2/13-2/15). She will be competing in the 60+ kg category where she will be taking on Mexico's Leticia Montoya. How does Karate distinguish itself from other Martial Arts? What makes it unique? ELISA AU: Karate is a martial art that can be very competitive as a sport. It is also fairly safe, despite what people think about combative sports. It used to be one of the after-school activities that I did for fun. Congratulations on winning the recent World Championships. What were your expectations going into the World Championships?
