It was the last hour of the last day for 13 art IV Center High School seniors. Their professional career as Center students was drawing to a close. Were they spending this final hour exchanging addresses, sharing summer plans, snapping photos? No. Mrs. Woods' art IV class was busy creating an enormous chalk masterpiece of legendary musician Charlie Parker with the assistance and guidance from professional street painting artists from LaStrada dell'Arte. This masterpiece also happened to be their final exam. There were lots of smiles and laughter between these seniors. However, they had a job to do and a job they did complete - just in time to celebrate! Swing by Mrs. Woods' art class to view the masterpiece.

PRESENT CIVIL WAR ENCAMPMENT
Over 1,500 eighth grade students learned first hand about life during the Civil War on May 5 and 6 when Moore Public Schools and the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma State Museum of History reenactors presented the fourth annual encampment at Moore’s Central Junior High stadium. The event was held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
Students visited 12 stations depicting various aspects of Civil War life, such as the food they ate, their tents and equipment, the music they enjoyed, the weapons they used, and the medical assistance they received.
Students learned that life was very difficult for Civil War soldiers. If a soldier was injured, he was treated by doctors that had one year of training, if that much. Soldiers were exposed to contagious diseases such as typhoid fever, malaria, cholera, and smallpox. Forty percent of the soldiers exposed got sick. For every 2 people killed in battle, 3 died from disease.  Camp life and food were primitive at best. Corn had to be boiled before eating to rid it of weevils and worms. Hardtack, a hard biscuit made of flour and water was a main staple of the soldier’s diet. Raw meat taken from wild animals that were shot was distributed to soldiers after sitting for hours in the hot sun. Most soldiers survived by foraging for whatever food they could find, such as berries and leaves, from the area surrounding encampments.

72. Brown V. Topeka Board Of Education | Real History In The Real World
and black children made colored kids in public segregated schools feel inferior, but black schools were not known for inferiority to white schools in kansas.
http://www.kawvalley.k12.ks.us/brown_v_board/
Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education Contact Us Search About Us Introduction The Jim Crow Laws were in effect when Linda Brown was but a small child. This law forced African Americans to drink from separate fountains, use separate restrooms, and eat in separate sections of restaurants. There weren't to many protests of such things by Blacks until the 1954 decision. Linda Brown had to walk one mile to Monroe Elementary School for African Americans through a switchyard. Sumner Elementary for Whites was only seven blocks away. Monroe Elementary was of broken ceiling tiles, floors, plaster, windows, and heating ducts. Segregation of white and black children made colored kids in public segregated schools feel inferior, but black schools were not known for inferiority to white schools in Kansas. Yet there still was the feeling. Many followed in the steps of the Brown case. Many protested, from women to poor people, every type that you can think of. This court decision not only called for racial balance in the material world but also racial equality in the mind. It also changed our legal system; some for the good and others just didn't help much.
