http://www.kansasfamily.com/Pages/0200ebp.html
Effective Black Parenting Until the creation of the Effective Black Parenting Program there were no programs that addressed these problems head on. There were also no programs that taught parenting skills in a manner that was respectful of African American patterns of communication and which recognized the African roots of the Extended Black Family. Thus, the program occupies a very special place in the history of parenting education in the United States. The Effective Black Parenting Program provides an excellent learning and relearning context to help parents do the best job possible. Its basic ideas are derived from the writings of African American parenting scholars, from research with African American parents, and from adaptations of parenting skills that have been found helpful in raising children of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Since its inception in 1979 over 100,000 parents nationwide have enrolled and benefitted from the training. As funding permits, Kansas Family Partnership offers Effective Black Parenting Facilitator Training . For more information about this program or trainers in your area contact KFP at KsFamPart@kansasfamily.com

From its first charitable act - providing housing, food and clothing to Topeka flood victims - to today, Family Service and Guidance Center (FSGC) has always been committed to improving the lives of local children and families. This includes establishing the first kindergarten for African-American children in Topeka as well as a cooking school for African-American girls in the 1930s.
