YouthNet is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the life opportunities of Kansas City young people by promoting quality youth development programs that occur in the afterschool hours. We do not provide any youth programs ourselves. Rather, we support the work of a number of existing community-based agencies whose missions include serving children, youth and families.
Currently, YouthNet is facilitating the evolution of these many programs into a more effective, coordinated youth-serving sector that can better ensure that quality youth development programs are available for area children, youth and families. We are focusing on three strategies:
  • Engaging young people, parents, youth-serving agencies, funders and other stakeholders to establish and implement a common set of standards of quality performance for youth programs
  • Providing training, educational opportunities and a range of technical assistance to support agencies as they integrate the standards into their day-to-day operations
  • In collaboration with youth-serving agencies defining a fair external monitoring and assessment process
As this more coordinated approach evolves, YouthNet believes that two more strategies will emerge:
