Who are the Deaf-Blind?
The term “Deaf-Blind” has been spelled in several different ways, i.e., “deaf-blind”, “Deaf-blind”, “Deaf-Blind”, “Deafblind”, “deafblind”, etc. The chosen spelling is often reflective of one’s personal view and/or involvement with deaf-blindness. Regardless however of the term’s “grammatically-correct” English spelling, deaf-blindness refers to the unique condition resulting from the combined effect of the loss of both vision and hearing. Thus, those with a dual-sensory impairment are not deaf and blind nor blind and deaf. They are uniquely “Deaf-Blind”.
