Kangaroos of the Middle East
Article by Dr. Richard Paley
Middle Eastern Kangaroos:
Did Kangaroos once live in the Middle East? Like most people who have been indoctrinated by the secular media, your answer to this question will probably be: "No, of course not! Kangaroos live only in Australia." But is that really true? Let us think about this a little more deeply using a proper Biblical perspective. Ask yourself these questions:
  • Do you believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of the Lord? ("Yes.")
  • Do you believe that the Lord brought the flood waters to the Earth and that all animals wherein the breath of life resided save those which Noah brought aboard his Ark were destroyed? ("Of course, that follows from your first question since the Bible tells us that this is what happened.")
  • Do you believe that kangaroos were amongst those animals aboard the Ark? ("Yes. Even though they were not explicitly mentioned in the Bible, they have the breath of life and so clearly two of them must have been aboard the Ark. How else would they be alive today?")

TEACHERS' NOTES
Background
This is a very widely known puzzle that exists in many variations in many countries. (eg: 'Frogs on lily pads', 'Mountain goats on a trail', etc). To solve it requires a systematic approach to the movement of the 'kangaroos', and the patterns of moves yields a fascinating quadratic relationship. Students are encouraged to work out the number of moves required for different numbers of discs and to look for patterns as the number of discs increases. This allows them to make predictions for even higher numbers of 'kangaroos' on either side. It is a great puzzle, but it becomes mathematically richer when the underlying algebra behind the moves can be explicitly recognised and explored.
Features
  • A physical introduction
For a whole class setting it can be a fun way to introduce the problem by setting up 7 chairs and having three pupils on each side (boys and girls?) representing the 'kangaroos'.
  • Systematic movement
The problem can be difficult, especially if you start with three or four on each side. Solving the simpler puzzle of just one on each side and then two can show the logic of the moves necessary for higher numbers on each side.

88. Kangaroo - Interesting Facts About The Australian Kangaroo
Information and photos and information about the kangaroos and the different types found in Australia.
http://koalaexpress.com.au/kangaroo facts.htm
A male kangaroo is called a boomer
A female kangaroo is called a flyer
A baby kangaroo is called a joey When European explorers first saw these strange hopping animals they asked a native Australian (aborigine) what they were called. He replied "kangaroo" meaning "I don't understand" your question. The explorers thought this was the animal's name. And that's how the kangaroo got its name. A Kangaroo is a marsupial mammal. It is a macropod which means "big foot". There are over 40 different types (species) of Kangaroo.
The smaller ones are usually called Wallabies. The largest is the Red Kangaroo.
It stands taller than a man and can weigh 85 kg's. It is the largest marsupial in the world. On the Australian coat of arms the Emu and the Kangaroo were selected as symbols of Australia to represent the country progress because they are always moving forward and never move backwards.
Kangaroos are the largest marsupial mammals. They belong to the Macropodidae family.

Kangaroos stomachs contain different bacteria
By Richard Black
BBC science correspondent Scientists in Australia are investigating whether kangaroos could help combat global warming. Australia's sheep and cattle produce huge amounts of methane, an important greenhouse gas - but kangaroos do not. Researchers believe it might be possible to use bacteria found in the stomachs of kangaroos to reduce methane output from cows and sheep. Methane emissions from farm animals account for about 15% of Australia's greenhouse gas production. Yet kangaroos, feeding on the same sorts of grass, produce no methane at all. Mystery bacteria It is all down to the bacteria in their stomachs which help process the food they eat. Farm animals make 15% of Australia's greenhouse gases
The stomach is basically a big fermentation tank, with lots of hydrogen in the frothy mix; sheep and cattle bacteria turn that hydrogen into methane, whereas kangaroo bacteria do something else with it.

Daryl E. O'Brien (NORTH)
- 1960, 1962-69, 135 games, 8 goals. (b.10 Sep 1941, 179cms, 81.5kgs).
Recruited from West Coburg, O'Brien was originally a half-forward flanker who found his niche as a half-back when shifted there by Alan Killigrew. He played close and tight . When he couldn't get a game in 1961 he wanted a clearance to Footscray, but fortunately for the Roos he stayed on and became a stalwart on the backline. ...from The Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers - Every AFL/VFL Player Since 1897
My Dad
My dad, Daryl O'Brien - DOB as I refer to him here, was a regular selection in North Melbourne side in the mid and late 60s. Playing most of his games as a tagger on the unglamorous half-back line, he wasn't a football superstar - even the newspapers of the time use terms like "under-rated" and "underestimated"- but many of opponents that are better-known today (Dean, Barassi, Skilton, Tuddenham, Vagg, Northey, Baldock, Somerville) rated him as one of their toughest opponents. DOB was runner-up to Noel Tealsdale in North's Best and Fairest in 1964 and represented Australia in the Galahs tour of 1968. I was only four years old when DOB retired, so I don't remember him playing for the Kangaroos and he's not one to dwell on past glories. Fortunately, my Grandmother kept a

Shoot Me Kangaroo Down, Sport Claim: Australian programmers added armed kangaroos to a military defense simulation program. Status: True. Example: [Collected on the Internet, 1999]
Mutant Marsupials Take Up Arms Against Australian Air Force The reuse of some object-oriented code has caused tactical headaches for Australia's armed forces. As virtual reality simulators assume larger roles in helicopter combat training , programmers have gone to great lengths to increase the realism of the their scenarios, including detailed landscapes and in the case of the Northern Territory's Operation Phoenix herds of kangaroos (since groups of disturbed animals might well give away a helicopters position). The head of the Defense Science and Technology Organization's Land Operations/Simulations division reportedly instructed developers to model the local marsupials' movements and reaction to helicopters. Being efficient programmers, they just re-appropriated some code originally used to model infantry detachments reactions under the same stimuli, changed the mapped icon from a soldier to a kangaroo, and increased the figures' speed of movement. Eager to demonstrate their flying skills for some visiting American pilots, the hotshot Aussies "buzzed" the virtual kangaroos in low flight during a simulation. The kangaroos scattered, as predicted, and the Americans nodded appreciatively

Kangaroo Biology
Kangaroos are Australia's best-known animals. Since they were first seen by European settlers - who were amazed at such strange animals - a lot has happened to these unique creatures. There are now more of some kangaroo species, generally the larger ones, than when the European settlers arrived. Other species are gone forever, made extinct by surroundings that were changed too much for them to survive. Many of less well known surviving species are also decreasing in number and may become extinct if we do not take the necessary actions. The following information gives general facts about kangaroo biology, the different species, where they are found and what is bieng done to protect them. The rare Long-footed Potoroo lives only

Martha Down Under: Kangaroos in the Courtroom
by William L. Anderson and Candice E. Jackson, March 15, 2004 For all of the supposed high drama the Martha Stewart case produced, in the end, it was all quite anticlimactic. According to Time Magazine Of course, the writers at Time Time To Kill a Mockingbird. This was not because of the evidence, as the government sycophants from Time and the New York Times have told their readers. As we have noted in another article it will open the door to defense evidence the conduct was not illegal. Each time lawyers tried to educate the jury, Judge Cedarbaum cut them short, in violation of her own pre-trial ruling. In other words, the government was permitted to allege insider trading, even though it had filed no criminal charges for that alleged violation, yet the defense was not permitted to respond. not assaulted. However, the judge permits the prosecution to continue its accusations while not permitting the defense to introduce its exculpatory evidence.
