Librarian III/IV (c23682) Description: The University of Missouri-Columbia Libraries is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Division Head, Journalism Libraries. Responsible for planning, directing and administering the programs of the Journalism Library and the Newspaper Library. Work closely with faculty, students, and staff of the Missouri School of Journalism to provide integrated library service in support of the mission of the school. Provide reference service, select new materials for the library collection, develop and direct instruction program and promote information resources in electronic format. Carry out MU Libraries' goals and objectives; serve on library and university committees; participate in fundraising and development activities. This position reports to the Director of Libraries. Minimum Qualifications: Masters in library science or advanced specialty degree in information science, journalism, or social science subject area, with evidence of strength in information access and management. Minimum of six years professional experience in a library, journalism, or similar environment with responsibilities to include instruction, technology management, and public service. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong service orientation; demonstrated expertise in library technology applications including web site design and management; ability to market library services; demonstrated creativity and initiative. Documentation of experience in formal presentations before diverse groups of people. Strong supervisory skills.

To meet this mandate, the Archives collects records originating from or relating to the University, its faculty, staff, and students, from the inception of Regina College in 1911 to the present day. In addition, the Archives collects private papers in the areas of visual arts, journalism, and Saskatchewan literature which support existing teaching programs. Special Collections contains published materials that are rare, valuable, or have particular cultural and historical importance. Canadian publications before 1900 and all other imprints before 1800 are included, as are books of bibliographic significance published after 1800. Many pre-1900 Canadian items are also available on microfiche in the CIHM collection in the Micromaterials room.
