    Journalism Lesson Plan
Overview: In this lesson, students will investigate what the new Ohio Department of Education science curriculum standards will mean in their school district. The board voted unanimously in October 2002 for standards that include both evolution and critical analysis of the theory. This leaves specific curriculum up to the individual school districts. Suggested time allotment: As much as two weeks, depending on any publishing deadlines for student newspapers or Web sites. Objectives: Students will: Understand necessary background in the debate between Darwinism and "intelligent design." Evaluate the information on these topics in light of the sources that supply them. Access both primary sources in their community (i.e. science teachers, nearby college curriculum experts, those representing both sides of the debate) and secondary sources online and in print. Interview school administrators to learn how the district will decide what its science curriculum will be and the timeline for any changes.
