Eddie Jordan Racing was originally set up in 1980, at a time when Jordan himself was still competing as a driver. Initially, the team contested the British F3 Championship, and they later moved up into the International F3000 series.
In these early years, a good measure of success was achieved, with drivers such as Martin Brundle, Johnny Herbert and Jean Alesi. The move into Formula One came in 1991, with significant backing from 7-Up and the added bonus of the Ford HB V8 engine, as also used by Benetton.
It proved a highly impressive début season, with Jordan placed fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, ahead of such seasoned campaigners as Tyrrell, Lotus and Brabham.

The 1948 War
by Mitchell Bard
Violence in the Holy Land broke out almost immediately after the UN announced partition on November 29, 1947. Jamal Husseini, the Arab Higher Committee's spokesman, had told the UN prior to the partition vote the Arabs would drench "the soil of our beloved country with the last drop of our blood . . . ." Husseini's prediction began to come true after the UN announcement. The Arabs declared a protest strike and instigated riots that claimed the lives of 62 Jews and 32 Arabs. By the end of the second week, 93 Arabs, 84 Jews and 7 Englishmen had been killed and scores injured. From November 30February 1, 427 Arabs, 381 Jews and 46 British were killed and 1,035 Arabs, 725 Jews and 135 British were wounded. In March alone, 271 Jews and 257 Arabs died in Arab attacks and Jewish counterattacks. The chairman of the Arab Higher Committee said the Arabs would "fight for every inch of their country." Two days later, the holy men of Al-Azhar University in Cairo called on the Muslim world to proclaim a jihad (holy war) against the Jews.

Will history repeat itself for MJ?
    By Ralph Wiley
    Page 2 columnist
Michael Jordan is often called the Babe Ruth of basketball. Once that was a compliment. Now, it's a warning sign. Big-time. The Babe dominated the game in his day, winning several titles ... Michael Jordan has to sit on his ego and make a shrewd play, not tomorrow, but right now. He can't make a power play, because he's no longer in a position of power. One has-been athlete is like any other. He can't intimidate, point a finger at teammates, frown and shoot a game-winning fade. No announcer will say, "He did it again! He did it again! He did it again!" about Jordan's next front-office experience if he has a next front-office experience and if some announcer does say it, it'll mean more trouble in Mudville. Babe Ruth was once the Home Run King Who Saved Baseball. And yet, when his playing days were done, nobody wanted any part of him ... as a manager, executive or anything else. There was closet resentment among those who were not in his sphere of influence with the Yankees, and resentment about the way he had dominated baseball. His brusque manner hadn't worn well on opposing teams and Yankee management. After being released by the Yankees, the team whose image he had created, in the sense of their homerun-hitting, world championship-winning swagger (much as Jordan had created the Chicago Bulls), Ruth came in with the Boston Braves, his own version of the Washington Wizards, on what looked like (to a simple ballplayer) a sweetheart deal, much as Jordan looked to have one with the Wiz. Jordan was off somewhere minding his own considerable ego when AOL magnate Ted Leonsis bought a piece of the Wiz off Abe Pollin, who apparently isn't as senile as he looks.

Hyde says Lewinsky, Jordan depositions strengthen House case
    Managers to seek live testimony
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, February 2) Lead prosecutor Henry Hyde said Tuesday that two days of closed depositions have strengthened the case against President Clinton and have led House managers to push for live testimony in his impeachment trial.
Also in this story: Senators voiced mixed reactions Tuesday after seeing the videotaped deposition of Monica Lewinsky. However, the House managers' bid for live testimony did get a boost from key Senate Republican Orrin Hatch of Utah, who said Lewinsky would make an excellent witness on the floor of the Senate. "It is our intention to request live witnesses," Hyde (R- Illinois) told reporters on Capitol Hill. "We think that's the highest and best evidence, and that will be our firm request." Hyde said the testimony of Lewinsky and of Clinton confidant Vernon Jordan had "strengthened some points" of the prosecution case.
