Welcome to the Mood Jazz Website. This is the official website of Jazz Musicians
Tom O Hare's This One's For Milt Jackson (Poppy 101) , was, self-evidently, a tribute to the Modern Jazz Quartet's great vibist. This new CD was recorded just before the death of that group's pianist and leader John Lewis, and it is appropriately dedicated to his memory. Pianist Paul O'Donnell and drummer Greg McCarthy grace proceedings as they did that previous session, but also on this occasion drummer Niall Marron plays on six tracks. The bassist is Michael Hauser, with whom O'Hare and Fischer are already working on a new project to be recorded in Fischer's new studio.
studied piano and violin as a child. He later attended the Hanns Eisler College of Music in Berlin, where he graduated as a music teacher, having studied arranging, conducting, saxophone and clarinet. [He has since added various flutes to that impressive armoury.] After lecturing at the College for many years he branched out into composing; among his credits are scores for Drama Festivals in Berlin, Vienna and Zurich and two musicals, Jack The Ripper and Marilyn. In all he has written some 120 songs and 200 film scores, the latter featuring such stars as Dietrich, Mitchum, David Bowie, Tony Curtis and David Hemmings. In 1998 he moved to Kinsale, which he finds an inspiring place to live and work, and which of course has occasioned his regular collaborations with O'Hare.

Jazz History: Jazz is the art of expression set to music! Jazz is said to be the fundamental rhythms of human life and man’s contemporary reassessment of his traditional values. Volumes have been written on the origins of jazz based on Black American life-styles. The early influences of tribal drums and the development of gospel, blues and field hollers seems to point out that jazz has to do with human survival and the expression of life. Those who play jazz have often expressed the feelings that jazz should remain undefined, jazz should be felt. "If you gotta ask, you’ll never know" -Louis Armstrong.

Folk music
Finnish folk music has been enjoying a new boom in the past decade. In the early 1990s, traditional boundaries were broken as Finnish folk music began with a modern musical approach to reach out to new listeners in different age groups. Our innovative and versatile folk musicians have also attracted considerable attention abroad, and with good reason. The roots of this boom, however, go back some time further. The renaissance of fiddler music began in the 1970s with the wide popularity gained by

Jazz Appreciation Month 2002
The State of Jazz Music Today
Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra Quintet members Charlie Young on saxophone, James King on bass, and Chuck Redd on drums. Spellman: I'm wondering what you think of today's music and what you see as the next evolution in the music. Some complain that the last really great genius we had was John Coltrane, who died in 1967. I've read other people say not to look for that don't look for another real giant with that stature, look for people making smaller breakthroughs. How do you see the state of the music today? Foster: Spellman: Do you see it as an advancement? Foster: Tyner: Moody: If you have the knowledge a seasoned musician has now, and they told you, "Here’s the song you’re going to play, ‘Starlight.’" That’s the only song you could play for 100 years, you still wouldn’t be able to play everything that could be played on that song. Music is growing; it’s like a young colt. You get a horse and it has a baby and the baby runs and just jumps all over because that’s the way young people do. I would never say that young people shouldn’t play fast. I won’t criticize anyone. I like this story about Phil Woods: Phil Woods was playing and someone said, "Ah, you ain’t playing nothing, you sound like Charlie Parker." Phil Woods handed him the horn and said, "Here, you sound like Charlie Parker." So anyway, music is in good hands, and it will grow forever, especially jazz.

77. The Red Hot Jazz Archive
The music called jazz was born sometime around 1895 in New Orleans. The first jazz was played by African Americans and Creole musicians in New Orleans.
http://www.redhotjazz.com/

Buddy Bolden
is generally considered to be the first real Jazz musician. Other early players included Freddie Keppard Bunk Johnson , and Clarence Williams . Although these musicians names are unknown to most people, then and now, their ideas are still being elaborated on to this day. Most of these men could not make a living with their music and were forced to work menial jobs to get by. The second wave of New Orleans Jazz musicians like Joe "King" Oliver Kid Ory , and Jelly Roll Morton fromed small bands, that took the music of these older men and increased the complexity and dynamic of their music, as well as gaining greater commercial success. This music became know as "Hot Jazz", because of the often break neck speeds and amazing improvised polyphony that these bands produced. A young virtuoso cornet player named Louis Armstrong was discovered in New Orleans by King Oliver . Armstrong soon grew to become the greatest Jazz musician of his era and eventually one of the biggest stars in the world. The impact of Armstrong and other Jazz musicians altered the course of both popular and Classical music. African American musical styles became the dominant force in 20th century music.
The Red Hot Archive is a place to study and enjoy the music of these early "Jazzmen". Due to recent advances in technology it is now possible to broadcast text, music, and pictures around the world via the Internet. This site is an experiment in using this new multimedia technology. We hope it will combine the best of books and audio recordings, into valuable and enjoyable tool for appreciating this music and the men and women who produced it. This site is a work in progress and will continue to grow as more recordings and writings are added to the archive. Submissions, suggestions, and corrections are welcome.
