191. Ladies Of Jazz, A Tribute To My Favorite Female Jazz Artists
A tribute to a personal selection of female jazz artists, both vocalists and instrumentalists, by Rodney Draper.
http://users.iafrica.com/d/db/dbnfresh/
This site is a tribute to my favourite lady jazz artists, whether vocalists or instrumentalists. It is not meant as an exhaustive list but highlights my musical tastes.
I started this as I was struggling to find information about these ladies and decided to put what I had together in one place. It then seemed a good idea to share it with whoever is interested.
I have started with Diana Krall Laura Fygi Joyce Cooling Claire Martin ... Stacey Kent and Jan Eisen and intend to add Eden Atwood, Kevyn Lettau, and Hiroko Kokubu as time permits.
My interest in some of these ladies was started when a friend lent me a CD called "Woman Of Jazz" on Sheer Sound (SSPCD 005). I then found that I really enjoyed the lesser known (to me anyway) names on the CD like Keiko Matsui , Kevyn Lettau, Hiroku Kokubu, Laura Fygi Joyce Cooling and Pamela Williams and went searching for other recordings on Amazon , as locally in South Africa most record shops hadn't even heard of them!!
