Writing with Java Script
When we used the first prompt example , we ended up with a page with the name we entered in the prompt written in the page. Something funny was going on there. Here's the code: script LANGUAGE=" JavaScript "
Name1=prompt("What is your name Enter a name in the box "+
"so you can see the effect on the page","Fido");
document.write("Welcome to my page ");
document.write(Name1+". ");
document.write("I have made everything just right for you.");
document.write("<p>So, "+Name1+", click <a href='index.html'>here</a> "+
"to learn how to get what you have been dreaming of for so long!<hr>");
/script
Launching the prompt message box
Fido . If nothing is entered in the prompt box, the name Fido will be used. Whatever is in the input part of the prompt box is stored in the variable Note : The text block, by the way, is broken using the quotation marks and the + sign (who said c oncatenation operator ? Order them out at once!) This just stops possible problems with un-terminated string errors in advance.

Java scripting languages: Which is right for you?
When hooking scripting language support into a Java app, choose wisely
Summary
A scripting language can give your Java programs power they wouldn't ordinarily have. Utilities such as IBM's Bean Scripting Framework make hooking Tcl, Python, Perl, and other scripting languages into your Java application easy. However, risks and costs abound with supporting a single scripting language, let alone a half-dozen of them. In this article, David Kearns describes the risks inherent in supporting a scripting language in your Java application, then, to help you make the right choice, compares Tcl, Python, JavaScript, and BeanShell. For example, your users may need to write scripts that drive the application, extend it, or contain loops and other flow-control constructs. In such cases, it's sensible to support a scripting language interpreter that can read user scripts, then run them against your Java application's classes. To accomplish that task, run a Java-based scripting language interpreter in the same JVM as your application. Support libraries, such as IBM's

How the browser knows it is JavaScript

This is how JavaScript works

Some programming basics

~~ Orientation
Let's clear up any confusion there may be between JavaScript and Java: Although they have similar names, they are very different. Java is a compiled language with modules that load into your browser from a source external to the web page. JavaScript, on the other hand, is an interpreted language and is almost always an integral part of the web page source code. "Compiled language" means the source code of the program is translated (compiled) into machine-language (composed only of 0's and 1's) before use. When it is time to run the program, the translated version is used by the computer instead of the original source code. Unless you are the programmer, you might never see the source code of the program you are using. "Interpreted language" means when it loads a page, the browser's interpreter uses the original source code and translates it into machine language. The translation is stored in the browser's memory ready to run all or portions of it as appropriate. When the browser window gets ready to load a different web page, the previous page's translated JavaScript is discarded.
