This is a self-initiated project to guide Japanese learners and Japanese to master kanji (Japanese/Chinese Characters) with minimal effort. While I was studying Japanese, I realized that conventional methods for learning Kanji took too much time and effort. So, I found and compiled some methods to make learning Japanese fun and easy. I don't want to show you a sea of the information or confuse you with a lot of Internet mumbo jumbo, I just want to guide you through the rough seas to dig up golden treasure from the dearth of available information out there.

Stop Press! This page has been included in Japanzine's Best Of Japan On The Web - 2004 report. As many readers of this page will know, I have an on-going interest in Japan, its people and language. This has led to a number of activities bringing together Japanese and my professional activities in computing and telecommunications. I have assembled this set of pages: (a) to provide information about a number of my projects in the area of Japanese computing and dictionaries, (b) to provide links to some of the resources available on the WWW on Japanese matters. These pages were mentioned in an article in the Asahi Evening News, by Andrew Horvat, whose pages have a link below. William Gordon has written an extended essay on these pages and the WWWJDIC dictionary server. David Jolly mentioned WWWJDIC in an article in the

    http://www.nihongo.org/english/language/
    The Japanese Language
The written language of Japan is a combination of Chinese derived ideograms ( Kanji ) and phonetic syllabary ( Kana - also derived from Chinese ideograms - just not quite as directly as the Kanji). With 1945 Jouyou Kanji and 92 Kana (not counting the variations created by dakuten and handakuten diacritical marks which add 25 more sounds) in the 'minimum for literacy' you might think that learning written Japanese an overwhelming task. But the spelling in kana is phonetic (unlike English where the spelling of a word and its pronunciation are frequently at heavy odds). And consider that learning the 1945 kanji 'words' is a smaller task than learning the spelling of the thousands of english words required for basic literacy in english and it does not seem so overwhelming. Indeed - much as when learning english spelling, you rapidly discover that common patterns radically simplify the overall task of learning the Japanese writing system.
