The origins of Rome (8th-6th centuries BC)
According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 BC by Romulus and Remus , and was then governed by seven Kings of Rome . In 509 BC the last of them, Tarquinius Superbus was overthrown, and the Roman Republic was formed. The Republic was ruled by two elected consuls at a time, while the Senate (formed by the most notable Patricians , that is, aristocrats) and a city assembly formed a sort of Parliament edit
    Territorial expansion (5th-2nd centuries BC)
In the following centuries, Rome started expanding its territory, defeating its neighbours ( Veium , the other Latins, the Sannites) one after the other. After each war, the Romans usually did not try to completely submit the defeated populations, but just forced them to become junior allies of Rome. This wise policy was probably one of the reasons of the strength of Rome. For example, several weak Etruscan or Greek cities in Tuscany and Campania actually asked for Roman protection, rather than confronting with Rome in a war. At that point Rome controlled most of the Western Mediterranean and its influence was rapidly growing in the East. At the end of

    Italy's History
    Beginnings of Global Conquest
Most of Italy's history centers around ancient Rome, the seat of the Roman Empire. The rich and powerful people of ancient Rome were the patricians, who governed the city from the Senate, and the equites, or men of property. All the social and most political power was in the hands of a few ancient families, such as Cornelii, the Julii ( the family of the Caesers) and the Aemilii. Most patricians had, beside their house at Rome, a family farm in the country and a number of villas in pleasant spots of Latium in central Italy or in the south. Town and contry houses alike were beautifully built and designed for their owner's comfort. Ceasar's Legacy in Italy
The Romans believed in making their sons fine soilders. So, after a young man became a Roman citizen, he was enlisted on his first military campaign. On his return from military service, the son of a patrician almost always entered into politics, and the sons of equites sometimes did the same. A young man first stood for election as an aedile, or city councillor. Perhaps the most famous young patrician son was Gaius Julius Ceasar, born in the year 100 BC whose family claimed decendancy from the kings of Alba Langa and through them, Aeneas of Troy whose mother was the goddess Venus. Caesar's name Julius comes from Iulius, the family name. This comes from Iulus, the name of Venus' son.

We know about them from their flint axes, and from one of their villages that has been excavated west of Rome at Torrimpietra. More people, Neanderthals, lived near Rome around 100,000 years ago. But the first people who were genetically the same as modern Italians came in the Upper Paleolithic (the Old Stone Age) about 12,000 years ago (10,000 BC ). They left some more stone tools, and some engravings of animals on cave walls and on bone, but nothing as fancy as the great cave paintings of France and Spain at this time. There must still not have been very many people in Italy. There was a big change about 5000 BC when Neolithic (New Stone Age) people arrived in Italy. They seem to have come from Greece , in boats across the ocean, and they already had New Stone Age technology when they arrived: they knew how to farm and how to make pottery and build houses . They brought wheat with them, and

Little is known of Italian history before the 5th cent. B.C. , except for the regions (S Italy and Sicily) where the Greeks had established colonies (see Magna Graecia ). The earliest known inhabitants seem to have been of Ligurian stock. The Etruscans, coming probably from Asia Minor, established themselves in central Italy before 800 B.C. They reduced the indigenous population to servile status and established a prosperous empire with a complex cu. B.C.

Italian investigators are focusing their attention on a shadowy group thought to be based in Bologna after a string of bomb attacks beginning in the Christmas period.
A Red Brigades logo was found near a murder scene in 2002 They suspect that a number of letter bombs received by EU officials, including European Commission President Romano Prodi, are the work of Italian anarchists. An Italian-based group calling itself the Informal Anarchist Federation has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Investigators believe the group has fewer than 300 members in Italy. The previously unknown group shares the Italian initials - FAI - of a well-known northern group, the Italian Anarchists Federation. However, the latter condemned the attacks as counterproductive and denied any role in the bombings. 'Years of lead' Italy has a history of politically motivated extremist groups. italy. The produced. italy had become the fourth aeronautical power in the world, after France, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
    http://www.flight100.org/history/italy.html
ITALY The first Italian who flew did so on board a balloon in 1784. Exactly 100 years after Paolo Andreani's flight, the Army of the young Italian state was equipped with a number of balloons that took part in the first Italian expedition to East Africa in 1890. Experimentation with aircraft in Italy was given a push by the visit of the French pioneer Delagrange (1908), and by Wilbur Wright, who flew in Italy and gave lessons on flying practice to two young Italian aviators. After that, aeronautical flight received a tremendous increase in activity and expansion, culminating in the first national event, the aerial circuit of Brescia in 1910. While it is difficult to say who was the first designer and which was the first design of an Italian aircraft, it is important to note that the country was the first nation to employ aircraft for military applications-using it for observations (photography) as well as the launching of hand-bombs during the Libyan War in 1911. At the beginning of World War I, the Italian aircraft industry was almost nonexistent and the Armed Forces were equipped with a very poor fleet (60 aircraft, 5 airships, and 12 seaplanes). However, aircraft were used for the launching of propaganda leaflets over Vienna in 1915.

History: Although Italy has only been unified since 1861, the rich and complex history of the peninsula has, perhaps more than that of any other country, influenced the course of European development, particularly in the fields of culture and political thought. The most important early settlers in the area were the Etruscans, who had established settlements in northern Italy by the sixth century BC. By the third century BC, the city state of Rome, having subdued most of the peninsula, was intent on extending its influence elsewhere. At its greatest extent, the Empire (so called after 30 BC) made the Mediterranean a Roman lake and for several centuries conferred on its inhabitants the benefits of the Pax Romana : culture (mainly Hellenic in origin), law, relative peace and comparative prosperity. By the fifth century, however, internal discord and external pressures resulted in the disintegration of the empires, although the Germanic people who assumed the rule of Italy (at first as representatives of the Eastern Emperor in Constantinople) were more concerned with the continuity of the Roman way of life than has often been supposed. From AD 493, the Ostrogothic Kingdom of Theodoric maintained the unity of Italy, but the region was reconquered by Justinian (AD 535-3). By the late sixth century, however, settlers from northern Europe had established a kingdom in Lombardy and before long, Italy had fragmented into a dozen or so states.

In 1933, the office moved to Villa Aldobrandini following an agreement between the Italian government, UNIDROIT (International Institute for the Unification of Private Law, to whom the building is entrusted) and the ILO.

History of Calabria This is the best one! www.g-site.com/orlando/. Kostas Calabria is one of the oldest regions of Italy. Millions of years ago it was part of the continent Tirrenide, which sank into the sea in the Tertiary Period. From the Archipelago it was made up of three islands and a larger peninsula which attached it to the massive Pollino. Calabria was invested with alluviums which covered its interior water bodies with a mantell of sediment, until eventually forming the current plains of: S. Eufemia, Corace, Sibari, Crati and Mesima. Later on, erosion and a slow process of a rising coastline resulted in the phenomenon of terracing, until reaching, in some points of the Aspromonte, the thousand meter mark. Today Calabria is a narrow penninsula approximately 250 km long, with no point in the territory more that 50 km from the coast. The mountain system stretches from its border with Basilicata to the strait of Messina, and land surface lying less than 200 meters above sea-level represents only 9% of the territory. The presence of humans in this region dates back to the first phases of antiquity, and around 700,000 years before Christ a type of Homo Erectus evolved leaving many traces of lithic industry spread along some coastal areas.

Magical Maratea Maratea is the ancient passageway to the Tyrrhenian slopes of the Basilicata, located between Northern Campania and Southern Calabria between the two National Parks (Pollino and Cilento). There are different historical interpretations as to the origin of Maratea but the two most probable interpretations are: the first being that the first signs of life began in the ancient city which dates back to the Greeks, in the VIII century AD when the founders formed habitat at the top of the mountain of San Biagio, patron saint. Others say that Maratea is the ancient city of Blanda, an important Christian centre which disappeared during the VIII century AD. The story that seems the most probable is the one that the first inhabitants of Maratea were joined together with the ones from Blanda forming one population.
