Bus blast kills at least 16 in Haifa, Israel
Witnesses said the bomber calmly boarded the bus before setting off an explosion. HAIFA, Israel (CNN) A powerful bomb ripped through a bus in the Israeli port city of Haifa around midday Sunday, police said, killing at least 16 people, including a suicide bomber, and injuring about 35 others. The suicide bomber detonated the explosion on the bus shortly after noon at a busy intersection in downtown Haifa, police said. The bombing happened 12 hours after a series of three deadly terrorist attacks in Jerusalem. The blast caused the bus to explode in a fireball and careen into a second bus. Police said a man calmly boarded the bus, paid his fare and seconds later ignited the explosion that sent the bus lurching across the road. MORE STORIES Jerusalem terrorist attacks claim at least 12 dead Both Israeli and Palestinian representatives condemned the attack as "outrageous" and "brutal."

My first full day in Bethlehem, Israel
My first evening in the Bethlehem Monastery was a curious one. Having arrived from such an ordeal in Jordan, I was in little need of fellowship and much need of rest. Meanwhile, I found that I was a much-anticipated celebrity in the monastery as Gil had been hyping my arrival for some time. Everyone who I encountered was extremely friendly and desirous to get to know me and spend time with me. I wish I could have communicated my desire back to them, but the language of choice in the monastery is Italian and despite my lineage, I am ignorant of this tongue. I tried my best to communicate through smiles and handshakes, and hope that the Friars would understand my desire for friendship. They did. That first night Gil gave me some of his clothes to wear at dinner so that I would look presentable (Tommy Hillfinger jeans and shirt - leftover from his trip abroad). Shortly after dinner, he took me on the terrace, so I could briefly check out Bethlehem at night. It was overwhelming to be in the city of Christ's birth and I was so excited to start my journeys. Unfortunately, my body was still troubling me, so Gil graciously let me retire after only ten minutes or so. I snuck back to my room and called it a night. I slept like a rock.

Israel continues assault on West Bank refugee camps
Israeli army armored personnel carriers enter the Balata refugee camp near the West Bank town of Nablus on Thursday. JERUSALEM (CNN) In what it is calling an attempt to root out terrorists in the West Bank, Israel on Friday continued its largest assault on Palestinian refugee camps since the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict began. Israeli infantry, armor and engineering units rolled into a West Bank Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin early Friday and were engaged in exchanges of gunfire with Palestinians, Israel Defense Forces said. "The goal of this activity aims to stop terrorists and dismantle the terrorist infrastructure within the camp," an IDF statement said. Palestinian security sources said one Palestinian was killed in Jenin and 23 others were wounded in Friday's fighting.

Spiritual Israel - ARE WE IT Doug Dodd s.b.g. – Berean Bible Church – Edgewater, Florida The Church That Preaches What The Bible Teaches Rightly Divided Preaching The Grace Of God - From The King James Bible - Dispensationally Delivered introduction In religion today you hear all kinds of misinformation that is taught as bible truth. For example some teach you have to be water baptized to be saved. Others teach against this saying water baptism is "an outward sign of an inward commitment". May I say at the outset that both of these teachings are dispensationally deficient. Then there are the issues of tongues, healings, tithing, gifts, signs, judgements, communion, forgiveness, atonement, and covenants, not to mention salvation, justification, redemption and reconciliation. Why is there so much confusion in churches today? Why is it that you can drive down any city street and find many, many kinds of church buildings? What is the reason for so much division? There is division because there is very little "right division". The confusion in the churches today stems from an evil root that fails to grasp several vital, yea, imperative bible truths. There is confusion because of a failure to….
  • Rightly divide the word of truth Acknowledge Paul as the apostle to the Gentiles Recognize the distinctiveness of the church the body of Christ
On the other hand, a complete harmony of the scriptures takes place when we employ these principles.

JERUSALEM (CNN) The Israeli Cabinet voted Wednesday to approve construction of the next phase of a controversial barrier that leaves some gaps but goes deep inside the West Bank. It settled on a plan that would start the construction of segments of the barrier but would not connect them to the main barrier that runs mostly along the dividing line between Israel and the West Bank. Under heavy pressure from the United States, which has declared that the cost of the barrier will be deducted from $9 billion in loan guarantees to Israel, the Cabinet stopped short of authorizing construction of a section of the barrier that would veer toward the Jewish settlement of Ariel, in the West Bank.

Blair shuttle moves to Israel
Assad delivered a public rebuff to Blair over civilian casualties JERSUSALEM (CNN) British Prime Minister Tony Blair is in Israel Thursday on the latest round of shuttle diplomacy over the war against terrorism. His visit follows a difficult day in Damascus where he heard first hand Arab anger at the U.S.-led bombing campaign in Afghanistan. At a joint news conference, Syrian President Bashar Assad denounced the air raids for causing "hundreds" of civilian casualties. It was Blair's first face-to-face confrontation with the controversy caused by the U.S. and UK campaign, although aides insisted later he had expected Assad to restate his well-known hostility to the bombing. JERUSALEM (CNN) Israel and the United States are conducting a series of joint military missions this week and next to improve naval commands and protect Israelis from missile attacks. The two countries will conduct joint exercises next week, possibly as soon as Sunday, to test Israel's new Arrow anti-missile system teamed with upgraded U.S. Patriot missile batteries, Israeli sources told CNN Thursday. It will be the first time for Israel's new $2 million Arrow system to be tested with the Patriots. On New Year's Day, the two nations teamed up with Turkey for an annual naval training exercise. While described as routine, the exercise comes as the United States increasingly appears headed to war.

Arafat asks Tenet to pressure Israel, aide says
Sharon heading to Washington next week to meet Bush
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, center, meets Monday with his Cabinet in Ramallah, West Bank. RAMALLAH, West Bank (CNN) Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat asked CIA Director George Tenet on Tuesday to pressure Israel to stop its daily incursions into Palestinian cities and refugee camps, a senior Arafat aide told Voice of Palestine Radio. Nabil Abu Rudeineh said Arafat also asked Tenet to push Israel to disband the military cordons it has established around many Palestinian cities and villages. Since the end of the Israeli military campaign in the West Bank in May, Israeli troops have ringed Palestinian cities and refugee camps, staging limited incursions and making arrests in what Israeli security sources have said are attempts to head off suicide bombers. Security sources Tuesday said Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian after a truck carrying two Israelis was stoned and overturned near Hebron, injuring both Israelis, one of them seriously.

Israel strikes back after university bombing
The scene at Hebrew University after the bombing Wednesday. NABLUS, West Bank (CNN) Israel launched a military operation in Palestinian-controlled Nablus early Friday morning, moving into the West Bank city with more than 150 armored vehicles, Palestinian security sources told CNN. At least one Palestinian was seriously wounded, and the Israeli army is not letting ambulances in or out of the city, the sources said. Apache helicopter gunships, tanks, armored personnel carriers and bulldozers were part of the Israeli force, along with other helicopter gunships and surveillance helicopters, the sources said. Heavy machine-gun fire was reported on the outskirts of the city. The Israelis entered the city from five different directions just before 2:30 a.m. (7:30 p.m. Thursday EDT) and reached the city center about a half hour later, the sources said.
