This is not God's way - Israel!
By Jan Willem van der Hoeven
Why, why does Israel always feel that it needs to run to the United States to get that government's approval for nearly every decision it wants to make? Well did the prophet of old address this issue when he prophesied: "Woe to the rebellious children*," says the Lord, "Who take counsel, but not of Me, and who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; who walk to go down to Egypt, and have not asked My advice, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore the strength of Pharaoh shall be your shame, and trust in the shadow of Egypt shall be your humiliation." (Isaiah 30:1-3) The underlying reason for Prime Minister Sharon's current political initiative, as one of his close aids told me recently, is that Israel is tired of war, and its people want to live and enjoy their lives in a time of peace like all the other Gentile nations, in what they hope will be a largely Jewish populated state. They are therefore willing to withdraw from and cede those areas where too many Arab Muslims live, in the false hope that they will finally be left alone. By thus looking for Gentile approval of its quest to settle down like all other nations, these Israelis truly rebel against the Lord their God. For He has promised, yes sworn, to give them their land in its entirety as an everlasting possession, so that upon this land they would be a light to the Gentiles, not an emulator of the ways of the Gentiles!

Daniel Rogov's
A Long History of Wine
After they had left Egypt and approached Canaan, Moses sent twelve spies across the river to explore the Promised Land. When they returned to their encampment to advise Moses, only Joshua and Caleb were in favor of entering the new land. The other spies, however, had not been particularly impressed by what they found and because they advised against entering the new land, the Israelites began their 40 year trek through Sinai. Fortunately, however, two of the spies had returned with a cluster of grapes and, according to folklore, those grapes yielded enough wine to last the people for their forty years in the wilderness. Nobody today is sure just how that wine tasted. There is a good chance, however, that it was terrible. Wine has been made in Israel since pre-Biblical times but, if the truth be known, until recently, there was no reason to be proud of those wines. The wines shipped to ancient Egypt were so bad that they had to be seasoned with honey, pepper and juniper berries to make them palatable, and those sent to Rome and England during the height of ancient Roman civilization were so thick and sweet that no modern connoisseur could possibly approve of them. So bad were most of these wines that it was probably a good thing that the Moslem conquest in AD 636 imposed a 1,200 year halt to the local wine industry. Even in 1870, when wine production started again, thanks to the aid of Baron Edmond de Rothschild, not all went smoothly, and most of the wine that was produced was red, sweet, unsophisticated and unappealing. In 1875, for example, British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli was given a bottle of kosher red wine from Palestine. After taking a few sips, Disraeli observed that it tasted "not so much like wine but more like what I expect to receive from my doctor as a remedy for a bad winter cough". Well into the 1960s, Israel justifiably suffered from a reputation of producing wines too sweet and too coarse to appeal to knowledgeable drinkers.

Judges: The Dark Ages Of Israel's History
Ruth: A Lesson Of Love And Providence
Lesson 6
The book of Judges covers the period of time between the death of Joshua and the first king of Israel. There were 15 different judges in all. The first judge was Othniel and the last was Samuel. The human author of Judges is unknown. Possibly it was written by Samuel, but we do not know for sure.
The Book of Ruth
The little book of Ruth is a beautiful story of love. It also shows how God cares and provides for His people. Most important, however, is that the book of Ruth provides another link in the family line of our Savior. We have seen the family line of Jesus come from Adam to Seth to Noah to Shem to Abraham to Isaac to Jacob and to Judah. Judah is the tribe from which the Christ came. The book of Ruth shows the family from which Christ came. It is the family of Jesse who was the father of David (Ruth 4:13-22).

Israel's history of assassinations
Great piece by Jackson Diehl in today's Washington Post In it, he details how in each of June 2001 and December 2001 though he erroneously referred to this having happened Dec 2002 American diplomacy had seemed to be successful in winning a ceasefire in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and then the Israeli security forces heated things up again by undertaking one of their 'assassination specials' against the Palestinians... Not that June 2001 was the first time that had happened, either. The record goes back at least as far October 1995, when Rabin's security forces assassinated Fathi Shiqaqi, of Islamic Jihad. Then the Mossad (when Peres was PM) took out Hamas's Yahya Ayyash, in January 1996. Both those assassinations were undertaken at times when the Israeli political echelon was also trying to effect a breakthrough in the peace process. (Actually, that could make it a little different from Sharon's use of assassinations, which is much more widespread and also not necessarily linked to any engagement in peacemaking that is anything like as serious as Rabin's and Peres's engagement in that 1995-96 period.) Details of the 1995-96 assassinations, by the way, are in

This page shows conflicts between the Arab nations (as a group), and Israel. As a rule, a legal state of war has existed between Israel and her Arab enemies since the beginning of the first war in 1948. Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, and Jordan made peace in 1994. The Palestine Authority, headed by Yassir Arafat and his Al-Fatah faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization negotiated a semi-peace, which, from mid-2000 on, has been destroyed through the "Al-Aqsa" Intifada violence. Other Palestinian groups, most notably Hamas, have been at war with Israel continuously. Although Israel and most Arab nations are technically in a continuous state of war, unless otherwise noted, specific outbreaks of fighting are considered to be separate wars. A history of Jewish underground radio stations by broadcasting historian Professor Douglas Boyd. Queen Helene Street) and this is still the home of Kol israel.
http://www.israelradio.org/history/history.html
FROM THE ARCHIVES - A BRIEF HISTORY OF RADIO IN THE COUNTRY Throughout the history of the country, radio has been the conveyor of important information at critical moments. Virtually the whole population was glued to radio sets at events such as the news of the United Nations vote on the partition of Palestine in 1947. In times of national emergency radio was, and still is, used to call up troops. In the pre-state period, all sides in the conflict used radio to disseminate information, deliberate mis-information and propaganda. The Jews effectively used clandestine radio, and today though pirate radio is against the law some people still retain a sentimental feeling towards a medium that was so important in the formation of the nation. With radio so prominent in the collective memory it has a special place in people's affections as so often it was used in order to follow important events affecting their lives, and still when the hourly news comes on the radio people stop whatever they are doing whether in shops, on buses (all fitted with radios) or in the street. Before TV and a multiplicity of radio stations came along, at night in any town or city street the voice of the Kol Israel radio news announcer could be heard emanating from every window around. It was in about 1930 that radio antennas could first be seen on homes in Palestine and sets went on sale in city stores. At first the only stations to be heard were distant ones, by short-wave from Europe such as Radio Paris and BBC Empire Service, and medium wave from Cairo. Then in 1932 with 675 licensed sets local radio came to the country and here is a brief chronology of its radio history.

So Abram went, as the L ORD Abram took his wife Sarai and his brother’s son Lot, and all the possessions that they had gathered, and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan." That presented a slight problem, for Abram had no children to be his heir, something he reminds the L ORD of in chapter 15: " Now After these things the word of the L ORD came to Abram in a vision, "Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great." But Abram said, "O Lord G OD , what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" … But the word of the L ORD came to him, "This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir."
