Kelly's committee testimony LONDON, England (CNN) The judge investigating the apparent suicide of British weapons expert David Kelly says he will call UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon and the British Broadcasting Corporation to testify. Opening the inquiry on Friday, Leading UK judge Lord Hutton explained how he would conduct the inquiry into what Hutton described as the "very tragic death" of the scientist. Hutton also vowed that the row between the government and the BBC would not cloud the probe. No dates have been set for Blair to front the inquiry but the investigation is set to continue on August 11. One of questions Hutton will ask is who leaked Kelly's name as the "mole" in the argument between the public broadcaster and the government over a dossier on alleged Iraqi banned weapons and the intelligence case for war.

German leaders warn on Iraq attack
Chancellor Schroeder: "Not prepared to engage in adventures" BERLIN, Germany German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer have cautioned against a possible U.S. attack on Iraq, stressing the need to solve the broader Middle East conflict first. "I can only warn against talking about or considering a war against Iraq without thinking of the consequences and without a political concept for the whole Middle East," Schroeder told a rally of his Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Hanover on Saturday. Fischer expressed a similar position in a television interview to be broadcast on Sunday. "To talk now of having to push through a change in government in Baghdad with a military intervention, that's a false assessment of priorities," he said. Schroeder reiterated his view that Germany stood beside the United States after the September 11 attacks, but was not prepared to engage in "adventures."

Bush, Blair make case against Iraq
Confusion over Iraqi nuke report
President Bush hosted British Prime Minister Tony Blair Saturday for talks on Iraq. CAMP DAVID, Maryland (CNN) President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Saturday there is ample evidence that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction, but critics questioned that conclusion and late Saturday some of the evidence the leaders cited was brought into question. Both leaders cited a report indicating possible nuclear construction by Iraq, although a spokesman for the international agency in charge of nuclear inspection said no conclusions could be drawn from the report. But by Saturday evening the whole issue of the existence of a "new report" was being denied by officials at the White House, the National Security Council, and the International Atomic Energy Agency, the supposed author of the alleged report. Blair said on Saturday morning, "We only need look at the report from the International Atomic Energy Agency this morning, showing what has been going on at a former nuclear weapon site."

Iraq
Americans planning travel to Iraq should read the Travel Warning for Iraq the Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement and the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement , available on the Bureau of Consular Affairs web site at http://travel.state.gov. April 6, 2004 COUNTRY DESCRIPTION: Iraq is currently administered by the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA). Three decades of war and government mismanagement have stunted Iraq's economy, leading to increased crime and poverty. Infrastructure is antiquated. Conditions in Iraq are extremely dangerous. The workweek in Iraq is Saturday through Thursday. Information about the CPA can be found at http://www.cpa-iraq.org. SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES: There is a U.S. consular officer who provides limited emergency services to U.S. citizens only. Because police and civil structures are in the process of being rebuilt, U.S. citizens may have little recourse to these entities in emergency situations, and may have to seek assistance from coalition military police. At the present time, there is an 11:00 pm to 4:30 am curfew in Baghdad. The banking and financial infrastructure has been disrupted and is in the process of rebuilding. Hotels usually require payment in foreign currency. No ATM machines exist. Restrictions on the use of the U.S. passport have been lifted.

HELSINKI, Finland (Reuters) Finland's first female prime minister, who quit last year accused of using leaked documents on Iraq to win an election, actively sought secret information, the court heard on the first day of her trial on Wednesday. Anneli Jaatteenmaki faces a possible fine for inciting or assisting the breach of official secrets. Prosecutors say she repeatedly asked a presidential aide for information on U.S.-Finland talks on Iraq, an allegation she has denied. The former aide accused of leaking the documents, Martti Manninen, also faces a potential fine. He has said Jaatteenmaki pressed him for documents and even gave him a secret fax number. "I did not think that receiving faxes or sending them could be wrong," Jaatteenmaki told the court on Wednesday. Manninen's lawyer told the court the information sent was not secret and Manninen had no idea how it would be used.

Iraq sanctions in balance
BAGHDAD, Iraq A U.N. deadline to reach agreement on introducing 'smart' sanctions against Iraq is about to expire. The British plan would aim to ease restrictions on civilian goods, retain bans on military hardware and review a list of "dual use" supplies that can be used for both military and civilian purposes. But ahead of a vote, due to take place on Tuesday, there is some disagreement among the U.N. Security Council on what sanctions regime should be imposed and Iraq is calling for all sanctions to be lifted. If the vote does not take place, or the 'smart sanctions' plan is thrown out, the council is expected to extend the existing food-for-oil scheme.
