WHAT IS AN ADVERTISING ATTRIBUTION STATEMENT?
Iowa Code section 68A.405 and Board rule 351-4.38 require a "paid for by" attribution statement to be printed or displayed on political material to identify the person paying for the material. An attribution statement MUST contain the words "Paid for by" to comply with the law and rule. WHAT PERSONS OR COMMITTEES ARE COVERED BY THE ATTRIBUTION LAW?
Any person who causes the publication or distribution of published material to expressly advocate the nomination, election, or defeat of a candidate, or to expressly advocate the passage or defeat of a ballot issue. WHAT POLITICAL ITEMS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AN ATTRIBUTION STATEMENT?
Political material in newspapers, magazines, tabloids, and shoppers are required to have an attribution statement, as well as stationery, mailings, brochures, postcards, scratch pads, posters, and outdoor political material. EXCEPTION: An individual who acts alone and spends $100 or less of his or her own money to advocate the passage or defeat of a ballot issue is not required to place an attribution statement on such political materials. IS THE ATTRIBUTION STATEMENT REQUIRED IN EDITORIALS AND NEWS STORIES OF A NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINE, ETC.?

2 semesters: 10 units Spanish I is based on the text Spanish for Mastery I (Vallete-Vallete). The course is designed to teach students beginning Spanish grammar and culture through reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. Communication in Spanish is the ultimate goal of all activities through an understanding of language and cultural practices. The text is supplemental with realia such as newspapers, magazines, and children's books. Students will be able to read, write, converse, and comprehend, as well as understand the present and past tenses by the end of the year.
Students must maintain a "C" average or better to advance to SpanishII FL200 Spanish II
2 semesters: 10 units Spanish II is based on the text Spanish for Mastery II (Vallete-Vallete). It builds on the base established in Spanish I and expands into more complex grammar and communication skills. The text is supplemented with realia such as magazines, newspapers and books, and occasional guest lectures in the target language. Spanish II focuses on more Hispanic social issues, especially in regard to Central America. Students should be able to understand and use present, past, future, conditional, plus several of the compound tenses by the end of the year.
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Spanish I.

PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM INTRODUCTION Public libraries play a vital role in educating the general public, whether it is through books, newspaper, magazines, or computer; a library is a facility that needs to be supported and supplied with up-to-date information, material, and equipment. This section will examine the current services and conditions of the public libraries within Lee County. Keokuk Public Library Keokuk Public Library is located at 210 North Fifth Street. The present building was completed in 1962 and a renovation was done to the main portion in February 2001. The library staff supplies direction and reference information to Patrons. Keokuk Public Library has materials that include books, magazines, newspapers, and genealogical/local history collection, videocassettes, CD's, audio books and microfilm. Access to the Internet and to on-line databases is also available at the library to patrons.

    Daily takes Gold Crown Award in New York City
    The Iowa State Daily was one of eight collegiate newspapers nationwide honored Saturday with Gold Crown distinction by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the highest award issued to student journalists. Of the 1,810 current CSPA members eligible to enter the Crown Awards, 1,514 newspapers, magazines and yearbooks submitted copies for this competition, according to a press release. Judging, which took place at Columbia University from December 14-17, 2003, was done by the Board of Crown judges. The newspapers were judged on writing, editing, design, content, concept, photography, art and graphics. The Daily's Gold Crown Award was announced Saturday in the Grand Ballroom of The Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Ayrel Clark, managing editor of visual and production for the Daily, and Kim Bui, assignment news editor for the Daily, accepted the award.
