Each course in the first-year curriculum shares these goals in addition to conveying substantive knowledge about a particular area of the law. The writing program is described in greater detail below. One of the distinctive benefits of legal education at The University of Iowa is the first-year "small-section" program which integrates training in basic lawyering skills into substantive courses taught by regular, full-time faculty.
