The center offers an abundance of help, ranging from personal advisers and a career library to technology resources. Student peer assistants, Jeremy Sanford and Cobey Swoyer review resources they will use to help other students at the Cereer Center, 24 Phillips Hall. The Career Center combines the former Business and Liberal Arts Placement Office and Career Development Services, which formerly functioned as separate offices. Jerry Paschal, the new executive director of the Career Center, says internships and placement are closely related and shouldn't be separate services.

Person Centered Futures Planning (PCFP) PCFP is a program used to facilitate transition planning for individuals with dual sensory impairments. Increasing Parental Involvement in Education Through Parent Information and Resource Centers By Linda Garrett-Johnson Think back to when you were a child. In what ways were your parents and family involved in your education? How do you feel this involvement impacted your learning and academic achievement? "Thirty years of research shows that greater family involvement in children's learning is a critical link to achieving a high-quality education and a safe, disciplined learning environment for every student" (Strong Families, Strong Schools: Building Community Partnerships For Learning, U.S. Department of Education, Sept. 1994, pg. III). In 1990, Congress approved the Goals 2000: Educate America Act, which created the National Education Goals. The hope of these goals was to help our nation lead the effort to ensure high standards of education for all students. In 1994, Goal 8: Parental Participation, was added to the National Education Goals. Goal 8 states that "by the year 2000, every school will promote partnerships that will increase parental involvement and participation in promoting the social, emotional, and academic growth of children" (The National Education Goals Report: Executive Summary, 1995, pg. 3). Parent Information and Resource Centers With the creation of Goal 8, Congress also allocated funds to develop Parent Assistance Centers, now called Parent Information and Resource Centers (PIRCs), to provide information, training, and support to parents and those involved in education. The staff of the centers collaborate with schools, institutions of higher education, businesses, social service agencies, and other nonprofit organizations primarily to: (1) increase parents' knowledge of and confidence in child-rearing activities; (2) strengthen partnerships between parents and professionals in meeting the educational needs of pre-school and school-aged children; and (3) enhance the developmental progress of children assisted under the program.
