I have created this page currently listing 357 programs to help people find women's studies programs with ease. My undergraduate degree, from Appalachian State University, had a concentration in women's studies; but I had great difficulty finding a graduate program. Eventually, I found NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, a self-design program in which you can incorporate women's studies. about us news sports features ... community Sunday, March 14, 2004 ISU develops guidelines to cut programs An Iowa State University task force late last week offered several recommendations about how to make ends meet through cutting majors and classes. It's solid groundwork that University of Iowa administrators should consider. THE ISSUE:
WE SUGGEST:
Indeed, four years of decreased state funding accompanied by three years of large tuition increases - and little chance of this spiral not continuing next year and the year after - necessitate that the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and University of Northern Iowa look seriously at new ways of saving dollars. That'll mean consolidating and cutting various services and programs. The question is how to do it - especially in a university setting that is full of sacred cows. The Iowa State task force suggested that deans consider eliminating undergraduate classes with fewer than 15 students, graduate classes with fewer than eight, undergraduate majors with fewer than 50 and graduate majors with fewer than 20. As students nearing graduation may need to complete degrees, the task force recommended that some lab sections, studio courses and an occasional section be allowed in the short term.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has served as the Nation's principal collector, repository, and interpreter of earth science data for more than a century. The USGS has been assessing, mapping, and reporting on Iowa's earth resources since the early 1900's. Ongoing USGS programs include activities in water availability and quality, natural hazards, biological, geographic and cartographic information, contaminated environments, land and water use, and mineral resources. Examples of these programs, many of which are conducted in partnership with State and local agencies, follow.
Ground-Water Resources
Ground water is the primary source of drinking water for Iowa's population. Information is needed by State and local governments to understand trends in water levels and water quality in the principal aquifers and to develop policy and management decisions related to their use. The USGS, in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), collects and compiles water-level data from a statewide network of about 150 observation wells ( fig. 1

Laborshed studies provide community economic developers and existing or prospective employers a flexible tool to understand the local labor market and make informed expansion and site selection decisions. A Laborshed is defined as the area or region from which an employment center draws its commuting workers. Laborshed studies show the distribution of the workers irrespective of natural or political boundaries. Laborsheds also address underemployment, the availability and willingness of current and prospective employees to change employment within the workforce, current and desired occupations, wages, hours worked and distance willing to commute to work. BLOCK SCHEDULING IN SCHOOLS MAY IMPACT STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT/ACT SCORES
IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY
AMES, Iowa Student achievement may be impaired by certain models of block scheduling, according to a new series of studies by Iowa State University and ACT.
Block scheduling models typically divide the school day into 80-90 minute blocks of time. The two main models are 4x4-semester plans (four classes per semester) and eight-block alternating-day approaches (eight classes throughout the year, with four classes on one day and four other classes on the next day). In contrast, under the more common seven- or eight-period daily scheduling models, students typically attend seven or eight 45-50 minute classes each day.
Block scheduling is used by about 30 percent of high schools in Iowa and Illinois, according to a series of joint studies conducted by a research team of Donald Hackmann, associate professor of educational leadership and policy studies at Iowa State, and Matt Harmston, Ann-Maureen Pliska and Robert Ziomek from ACT Inc. ACT is an Iowa City-based educational services firm that administers the ACT Assessment. The ACT assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.

35. Iowa Civil Rights Commission Accessibility Study Executive Summary
The iowa Civil Rights Commission recently completed a four accessibility studies,(2) reviewed state Building Code 3) surveyed county and city housing officials
http://www.state.ia.us/government/crc/accessibilityexecutivesummary.html
Accessibility Review of Covered Multifamily Housing Executive Summary State and federal fair housing laws that prohibit discrimination against persons with disabilities impose basic "accessibility" structural standards for newly constructed covered multifamily dwellings. The State Building Code also imposes accessibility standards and requires that blueprints be reviewed for accessibility compliance and that "handicapped review certificates" be issued for every covered multifamily dwelling. The Iowa Civil Rights Commission recently completed a four-step study to determine the level of compliance with those accessibility requirements. The Commission (1) reviewed existing accessibility studies, (2) reviewed State Building Code "handicapped review certificate" files, (3) surveyed county and city housing officials, and (4) conducted on-site surveys of covered multifamily dwellings. Existing Accessibility Studies. The Commission reviewed the latest "Fair Housing Impediments Analysis" studies conducted by the Cities of Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Dubuque, Iowa City, Mason City, Sioux City, and Waterloo. Four studies did not address accessibility. Three indicated a shortage of accessible housing and two indicated compliance problems in new construction. The Fair Housing Center in Omaha, Nebraska, recently surveyed a number of new construction projects throughout Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa, and found significant compliance problems. Indeed, frequently the building inspectors who would be called upon to ensure that the blueprints provided for accessibility compliance had scant familiarity with the provisions of the law. The Fair Housing Center report includes a quote from a building inspector in Council Bluffs, stating that he thought that "if the building could be made accessible (e.g. the light switch could be lowered or a ramp could be installed) then the requirements are met."

One of the most important things is to have fun! Below are some activities to help you study IOWA. You may choose to do all, some, or none of the activities. You can also alter the activities to better suit your individual child's needs. Some of these activities overlap each other, choose the one you think that you and the children will enjoy most. The main point of this unit is to make learning about IOWA and enjoyable for all who are participating. Iowa's State Flag Having three vertical stripes blue, white and red the Iowa flag resembles the flag of France. On the white stripe is a bald eagle carrying a blue streamer in its beak. The state motto " Our Liberties We Prize, and Our Rights We will Maintain" is written on the streamer. The name of the state is emblazoned in red letters. Flag adopted 1921. Create a State "Infodesk": Before you begin this unit you may want to set up a research area. Place a desk or table in front of a bulletin board area. This will be where you can place relevant books, magazines, photographs, posters, newspaper articles, maps, scrapbooks, games, puzzles, computer software, task cards, travel brochures, etc. that you collect.
