REVISED
A Guide to Native American Studies Programs
in the United States and Canada
Robert M. Nelson, Editor
Ten years ago, in the Fall of 1993, the Association for the Study of American Literatures published a 30-page guide to Native American Studies programs in the U.S., compiled and edited by former ASAIL President Franchot Ballinger. This new Guide to Native American Studies Programs in the United States and Canada represents an attempt to update and expand upon Professor Ballinger's pioneering work. In accordance with a 1995 ASAIL resolution, it is being published both in hardcopy form and in electronic form, so as to be available not only to ASAIL members but also to non-members, compliments of the Association. I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable assistance of two SAIL Editorial Assistants, Amy Davidson (1995-96) and Corrie Anderson (1996-97), who in addition to their other duties put in many hours of overtime gathering and regathering, collating and recollating information from a variety of sources including questionnaires, follow-up letters and phone calls, and worldwide websites. Thanks also to Karen Strom at University of Massachusetts, who read the final draft of this guide and provided or corrected many of the URL addresses for program websites. Our dream was to provide a comprehensive survey of U.S. and Canadian Native American Studies programs being offered as majors, minors, and certifications at the baccalaureate level or above, using (with some slight modifications and additions) Professor Ballinger's earlier categories of information on each program. And although we have made a considerable effort to locate, contact, and acquire information about Native American Studies programs (by whatever title: Native American Studies and American Indian Studies are the most common designations, though there are others) at all North American baccalaureate-granting institutions, readers should keep in mind that the

Only Web sites that are reflective of US Latino realities were considered; sites that are exclusively Latin American in focus are not included. Solar and Wind Energy Around the World
Teacher's Notes Objective:
Each student 1) decides upon uses for solar and wind energy; 2) designs and constructs an energy collage; and 3) titles the collage. Teaching Suggestions:
1. Students are given magazines, catalogs, and newspapers to cut out pictures for an energy collage.
2. After the collage is complete, a title should be given. A contest could be held to see which collage shows the most ways of using solar or wind energy.
3. Winners could be rewarded with a solar powered clothes dryer (clothes line and pins). Extend the Activity:
Have students write the "message" their collage represents and present their products to the class.
Solar and Wind Energy Around the World
Problem:
How does our world use wind and solar energy? Materials:
1. Magazines, catalogs, and newspapers
2. Construction paper or poster board
3. Glue Activity:
1. On paper, list uses of wind or solar energy. 2. Look through magazines, catalogs, and newspapers for pictures depicting the use of solar and wind energy. Cut out these pictures. 3. Glue pictures onto poster board or construction paper to make a collage.

University of Iowa UI Health Care News: Week of May 14, 2001
UI studies show support for adult immunization by non-physicians
Iowa family physicians and their patients overall support having adults receive immunizations from non-physician health care professionals at sites outside of physician offices, according to two related studies by University of Iowa researchers. In addition, physicians and patients supported having children receive immunizations at certain non-physician locations such as community health centers, but were less supportive of using locations such as pharmacies for childhood shots. There also was some concern about the record keeping and safety of out-of-office immunizations. The studies, published in two journals earlier this year, have implications for ways to increase immunization rates in Iowa and possibly other states with similar populations. Other studies have shown that using non-physicians, such as nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists, to provide immunizations may help more people keep their immunizations up to date. However, little has been known about primary care physicians' interest in working with other health care providers on immunization efforts, or patients' interest in getting immunizations from non-physicians at locations such as community health centers, schools and pharmacies.
