165. Fire Prevention Recognition
Resources of United Statesbased fire safety programs and public education content available on the internet.
http://www.pfa.org/firesafe/
The best way to fight fire is to prevent it in the first place. The first step in fire safety is education. Education can
help prevent a large percentage of fires. An informed public
will be less careless and can avoid conditions that start
many accidental fires. Most people may not be concerned with fire safety until
it is too late. Lucky for them, firefighters are constantly
trying to help all people prevent fires. They spend a lot of
their time educating the public to benefit the community
and to save lives. PFA feels their time and effort should be recognized. This
page is dedicated to honoring an outstanding fire prevention
site each month. These sites are selected based on a
number of criteria including content, usability, originality and creativity. Judges will be looking at the user-friendliness of the site, as well as the originality and creativity used in presenting the tips. PFA honors these sites that make a special effort to keep the community safe. To submit a site for consideration, please send the web address to rluedeka@pfa.org

A few short years ago, the common assumption was that anyone who'd turn to their computer for love had to be a geeky, pathetic loser who couldn't get a date. More recently, with the Internet changing everything from the way we shop to the way we find driving directions, cyberspace has become the hottest pick-up joint on the planet. These stories prove not only that normal, stable everyday folks are using the internet to find romance, but that sometimes... there's still a lot of freaks out there.

My Online
Safety Pledge
Travelling through cyberspace can be fun, but like any trip you take you have to "Be Prepared" for unforeseen things. So, read this before you go any further. Then print this page out and discuss it with your adult partner.
  • I will tell an adult right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable. I will never agree to get together with someone I "meet" online without first checking with my parents/guardians. If my parents/guardians agree to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring my parent or guardian along. I will never send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents/guardians. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents/guardians right away so that they can contact the online service. I will talk with my parents/guardians so that we can set up rules for going online. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online, and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission.
