KIKS Quest
Online Education is essential in order to provide a Safe Internet experience for children and adults. Our main goals are to Educate the public, Monitor Internet Activities (i.e. stop the porn spam, monitor chat rooms etc.) and to change laws in order to benefit our children.
The Internet has revolutionized life over the years. We are able to keep in touch with loved ones and friends, conduct business, financial transactions, and have a wealth of information only a dot com away. Computers encompass our lives as we have access just about anywhere through Schools, Libraries, Businesses, Our homes, and yes, now even e-mail retrieval and instant messaging through phones. What a great World we live in, only if we could make it SAFE to surf the Internet without fear of those who prey on our children and send pornographic links through instant messages, e-mail, and directly to the chat rooms.

School safety statistics, internet links and legislative updates from the office of Sen. Robert Bryd (WV).
http://www.senate.gov/~byrd/schl-main.htm
Senator Byrd's School Safety Resources Across the country, tragedies have been visited upon schools across the country. From Kentucky to Oregon to Colorado, the notion of schools as safe havens has been shattered by the sound of gunfire. These acts are not limited to specific geographic regions or family backgrounds, nor do they have a single catalyst. Those who have committed such heinous acts have done so for different reasons, at different times, in different schools. But these acts of school violence have at least one thing in common they have spurred all of us to take a closer look at what can be done to better protect children at school. Protecting our children is not simply a matter of public policy. It is a matter of strengthening basic values, of teaching children right from wrong, of instilling in them respect for others. We each have a responsibility to work to end youth violence and to keep schools safe for children and for those who teach them. Many West Virginia school districts have implemented new safety initiatives. On this web site, I have compiled information on some of these efforts. Federal

The day has come when internet dating is considered a legitimate way of meeting new people in the endless search for the right person. Chat rooms have replaced bar rooms, and dating sites and personal ads no longer have the "stigma" that they once did. You may still get a raised eyebrow when telling people you are using the internet for your search for the perfect mate, but no where close to the reaction you would have gotten years ago. Internet dating has gained popularity by leaps and bounds, and unfortunately, so have the dangers and horror stories some have encountered. The anonymity of internet dating has afforded con artists a new playground for scams, and has allowed people to be anyone they think you want them to be because they are engaging you primarily through the written word. This site is not meant to bring forth the message that its impossible to find love through internet dating, but to inform people of the dangers that are out there. Internet dating is still a relatively new way of people connecting with people from all over the globe, and people need to understand the dangers out there so they can make their search a safe one. Included in this site or stories from those that have been there, and are willing to share their experiences with others in an effort to educate people and learn from their mistakes. If you have a story and would like to share your experiences with internet dating, please feel free to email it to us!

Risks by Area The Web Chatrooms Instant Messaging E-mail ... Newsgroups, Forums and Bulletin Boards W hatever your age, the Internet is a great place to hang out. It’s not only fun, but it lets you keep in touch with friends and family and provides an enormous amount of information. There are lots of great educational sites as well as places to keep up with your favorite hobbies, music, sports, and much more. If you’re a teen, we probably don’t need to sell you on the benefits of the Internet. Many of you know far more than your parents or even teachers about the wonders of cyberspace. If you’re a parent, talk to your children about “the Net” and if you need to learn more see if they can help you. Either way, it’s important for teens and parents to share knowledge. You have something to learn from each other

Now listen kids when you click on the web and you're surfin' for somethin' to do; chattin' in a Chattanooga chat room with a man named "Mr. Kazoo"; well, don't give out your name and number or your address too! It ain't safe to give it out, if you ain't got a clue. Now, I'm not sayin' that strangers are bad or that you can't make friends, I'm just sayin' it's smart to keep it safe when your parents aren't watchin'... (so) don't give out your name and number or your address too! It ain't safe to give it out if you ain't got a clue. (spoken): "That's right, Kids!
