On this page you'll find some neat lesson plans about Ancient Egypt, web quests, games, online activities and literature guides. Lesson Plans Mummies and Burials Mummify a chicken: You will need to wear gloves for this activity! Buy a fresh hen from the grocery store. Take the neck, liver, and gizzard out. Mummify them in separate bags from the hen. After they are mummified, they can be placed in canopic jars the students make. Thoroughly wash the chicken inside and out, and pat it dry with paper towels. Make a mixture of 1/2 salt and 1/2 baking soda. Fill the inside of the chicken with the mixture. Next, place the chicken into a large zip lock bag. Completely cover the chicken with the salt and baking soda mixture. Change the salt and baking soda mixture every five day for the first two weeks. After the first two weeks, change the salt and baking soda mixture every 10 days. After about 45 days remove the chicken from the salt. Wip off the chicken and rub it with olive oil. Sprinkle spices such as rosemary over it. Pat the chicken dry and wrap it with strips of cotton or gauze. Decorate the wrapped chicken with Egyptian symbols. Paint the mummy with several layers of lacquer. Make a burial mask - make a piece of poster board into a cylinder. Cut out semicircles on the bottom of each side so that it will fit over the shoulders. Cut strips down the top of the cylinder and fold the strips over each other to give a rounded top. Staple or hot glue everything in place. Spray paint the mask gold. Using permanent markers, color on the features.

    57. Peace Corps | World Wise Schools | Lesson Plans
way to include World Wise Schools global education materials in interdisciplinary lessons. so they, too, can include global education in their lesson plans.
    http://www.peacecorps.gov/wws/lessons/earthday.html
    Earth Day for Global Educators
Create lessons and units that are interdisciplinary, follow a theme, and are educationally sound—a challenge for any teacher! Such lessons take time and effort and are bound by the constraints of the required curriculum. Often global education issues are relegated to a "catch as catch can" status in these creative efforts. Interdisciplinary units often use month long celebrations of cultural pride and special event days as the theme material. Earth Day has gained a prominent focus for schools in the United States and students around the world. Earth Day and the study of the environment is a perfect way to include Coverdell World Wise Schools (CWWS) global education materials in interdisciplinary lessons. CWWS has many activities in the Destination study guides that address environmental issues and include the study of a particular country, its culture and geography. Social studies teachers who are presenting the study of a particular region of the world can use one of the countries from that region to illustrate the environment and environmental issues. Those who are studying the United States might want to choose an environmental concern abroad that can be compared and contrasted to an environmental concern in the US. Reading and language teachers will find source materials in the guides, and there are some lessons which lend themselves to graphing and data analysis for the mathematicians. It goes without saying that science teachers have a bonanza in these activity suggestions so they, too, can include global education in their lesson plans.
