Junior High Poetry to appear in Anthology ISTEP results show continued success in meeting standards "We didn't see major gains or losses," said Dr. Charles Leonard about recently reported 1998 ISTEP+ results. "You never want to be satisfied, but as we look at our past performance and how we compare to others, we believe our students and staff are doing an excellent job." HSE students meeting standards in both mathematics and language arts at third grade totaled 82 percent; sixth grade, 75 percent; eighth grade, 83 percent; and tenth grade, 78 percent. See the chart titled 1998 ISTEP+ Percent Meeting Standards for a breakdown by grade and category in addition to percent of students meeting standard.

MINUTES The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Monday, October 6, 2003, at the Central Office board room at 7:00 p.m. This meeting followed a scheduled reception with the NACS administrators. Members present: Donald Duff, Ron Felger, John Hilger, Paul Sloffer, and Howard (Nick) Schortgen. Also present: Dr. Steve Yager, Niles Pfafman, Bill Mallers, Becky McGuire, staff, parents, patrons, and reporters. STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Cheryl Gratz and Charlotte Elliott, Parkview Behavioral Center, reported on the Student Assistance Program for Carroll High, Carroll Middle, and Maple Creek Middle Schools. They presented data for all three buildings for the 2002-03 school year. The program services students in these buildings with problems such as alcohol abuse, drug and substance abuse, pregnancy, eating disorders, family problems, violence, depression, grieving, sexual abuse, problems with peers, and behavioral problems. The students are seen in small counseling sessions that do not interfere with learning. Questions pertained to whether there was adequate time allotted for their work in each building, length of the contract, follow-up with students in the summer, and how NACS compares with other school corporations. REGULAR MEETING Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, as presented was made by John Hilger; seconded by Nick Schortgen. Motion carried.

MINUTES The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session, following the hearings on Monday, October 7, 2002, in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Paul Sloffer, Ronald Felger, Donna Duff, John Hilger, and Howard (Nick) Schortgen. Also present: Dr. Steve Yager, Dr. Gloria Shamanoff, Niles Pfafman, Bill Mallers, Becky McGuire, principals, parents, patrons, and reporters. The meeting was called to order. Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as presented was made by John Hilger; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried. RECEIVE PATRONS' PETITIONS/INTRODUCE LEASE/AUTHORIZE LEASE HEARING Bill Mallers recommended a common wage hearing be conducted for the building projects at Carroll Middle, Huntertown, Oak View, and new construction of a middle school and transportation garage. This would be held on October 29, at 9:00 a.m., in the Central Office conference room. Mr. Mallers would be the industry representative, Doug McComb would be the Allen Co. commissioners’ representative. Lloyd Hoot was recommended as the NACS taxpayer/resident representative. Motion to approve by Donna Duff; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried. Jim Elizondo presented to the board the 145 signatures of patrons in support of the above-named building projects. Mr. Elizondo recommended accepting and retaining the existing Building Corporation for the projects and scheduling a lease hearing at the board meeting on November 18, 2002. This form of net lease goes directly to the debt service on the bonds with the maximum being 22 years. Mr. Elizondo read the enclosed Exhibit A resolution.
