I'm a first grade teacher and have been in education since 1976. I've been hooked on technology since I bought my first home computer in 1992. In 1994 I began taking workshops about the Internet, and I soon got an Internet connection at home. Because of my interest in technology and the Internet, I was asked in 1996 to create our school's web site, Loogootee Elementary West Some of the training sessions and curriculum resource developments that I've created and have been involved with are:

Education Issues Series
Special Education Inclusion Educators' Bulletin Board IDEAS Resource pages on educational issues Professional support ... ONLINE SERVICES This article was updated November 5, 2001 Inclusion remains a controversial concept in education because it relates to educational and social values, as well as to our sense of individual worth. Any discussion about inclusion should address several important questions:
  • Do we value all children equally? Is anyone more or less valuable? What do we mean by "inclusion?" Are there some children for whom "inclusion" is inappropriate?
There are advocates on both sides of the issue. James Kauffman of the University of Virginia views inclusion as a policy driven by an unrealistic expectation that money will be saved. Furthermore, he argues that trying to force all students into the inclusion mold is just as coercive and discriminatory as trying to force all students into the mold of a special education class or residential institution. At the other end of the spectrum are those who believe that all students belong in the regular education classroom, and that "good" teachers are those who can meet the needs of all the students, regardless of what those needs may be.

Character Education. ERIC Digest.
THIS DIGEST WAS CREATED BY ERIC, THE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES INFORMATION CENTER. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT ERIC, CONTACT ACCESS ERIC 1-800-LET-ERIC This ERIC Digest explores (1) the various definitions of and approaches to character education; (2) divergent points of view on character education in the schools; and (3) sample character education programs.
DEFINITIONS AND APPROACHES.
"Character education" is an umbrella term used to describe many aspects of teaching and learning for personal development. Some areas under this umbrella are "moral reasoning/cognitive development"; "social and emotional learning"; "moral education/virtue"; "life skills education"; "caring community"; "health education"; "violence prevention"; "conflict resolution/peer mediation" and "ethic/moral philosophy" (Character Education Partnership 1999, 3). As indicated by the variety of terms associated with it, character education is broad in scope and difficult to define precisely. Character education treats various aspects of moral education, civic education, and character development. Its multi-faceted composition makes character education a difficult concept to address in schools. Each component provides a slightly different slant on what is important, and what should be taught.
