Indiana Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Management Plan EXECUTIVE SUMMARY What are aquatic nuisance species? An "invasive species" is defined as a species that is nonnative (or alien) to the ecosystem under consideration and whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health (Executive Order 13112; http://www.invasivespecies.gov ). Invasive species can be plants, animals, and other organisms, such as bacteria and viruses. This plan addresses invasive species that can live in the aquatic habitats of Indiana, such as lakes, rivers, and wetlands. Why should we be concerned? Invasive species problems are both a consequence of and an impact on the economic welfare of our nation (Evans, 2003). Most introductions of invasive species can be linked to the intended or unintended consequences of economic activities, such as trade and shipping (Perrings, et al., 2002). Six types of economic impacts can be identified: (a) production; (b) price and market effects; (c) trade; (d) food security and nutrition; (e) human health and the environment; and (f) financial costs impacts (Food and Agricultural Organization, 2001). Over the past 200 years or so, more than 50,000 foreign plant and animal species have become established in the United States. About one in seven has become invasive, with damage and control costs estimated at more than $137 billon each year (Pimental et al., 2000).

US State Government Aid The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for most state loan, grant and scholarship programs, in addition to the federal loans and grants. When you submit the FAFSA to the US Department of Education, they forward the information on the form to the state student assistance agency. Each state has a different FAFSA submission deadline. If you submit your FAFSA by March 1, you will be in time for all state deadlines, other than Michigan. If you miss the deadline, you will be ineligible to receive state aid for the entire academic year. Procedures for applying for state prepaid tuition programs and the national guard differ from state to state. The amount of information provided on the state web sites varies from state to states. Some states provide comprehensive information about residency requirements, loan, grant, scholarship and prepaid tuition programs and other state aid programs. Others provide minimal information. We recommend visiting the sites for both your state of residence and for the states of the colleges to which you are applying. A B C D ...

  • Developed a mission statement, goals and strategic plan; Conducted statehouse events for state legislators during National Agriculture Week to promote Hoosier agriculture to members of the Indiana General Assembly.
Web site www.indag.org AG Extravaganza posters sent to 4,000 4th grade Indiana classrooms, along with 12 ag-related activity sheets for students. Placemats highlighting facts on Indiana's agricultural industry.
McDonald's Restaurants agriculture week promotion to raise awareness about Indiana agriculture. 2004 is an exciting year for the Indiana Agriculture Resource Council as we again reach thousands of Hoosiers with our message on Indiana agriculture! The organization introduces an exciting Agriculture Literacy Curriculum developed specifically for fourth grade students. The curriculum is correlated to Indiana Deparment of Education standards for math, science, English and social studies and will be sent to educators in the spring. The Council also embarks on another rewarding project with McDonald's Restaurants in central and southern Indiana. Our AG tray liners will be used in 158 McDonald's restaurants in 53 central Indiana counties and 17 restaurants in southern Indiana. In 2004, we also are working with 74 restaurants in 19 Kentucky counties.
