To stimulate discussions and get a variety of perspectives, a minimum of at least 15 - 20 people was recommended. If boards were smaller than this, it was recommended that community stakeholders or clientele including youth be invited to participate. Number involved: 5 County Extension Boards Program: County Extension Boards participated in 18-20 hours (seven modules) of Board Development. This report focuses on 3 of the 7 modules pertaining to diversity. During the Diversity Management Modules, the board utilized the "Inclusivity Model" to help them conduct a baseline assessment of the degree on inclusivity of the county Extension program in five major areas: 1) audience/clientele base, 2) Extension education delivery, 3) board leadership, 4) financial resources and 5) human resources. After completion of the initial assessment, the Boards worked with facilitators to develop an action plan to increase inclusivity in each of the 5 major areas. The Boards then worked in their individual community to carry out their action plan. Each year the Boards reconvened and reassessed their inclusivity.

Plans of the Centennial Committee Planning for the 1916 Statehood Centennial began in 1911 with the creation of a Centennial Committee. This Committee was made up of representative men from each Congressional District in Indiana, including the President of Indiana University, William L. Bryan; Winthrop Stone, President of Purdue University; Judge Andrew Adams of Columbia City; and editor of the Corydon Democrat , Lew O'Bannon. The 1911 Legislature allowed for this Committee to recommend a site for a celebration and to suggest a permanent memorial to mark the occasion of the Centennial. While the Committee was empowered to select a site, it was not allowed to actually plan anything. Because of this, it was the feeling of the Committee that a Library and Museum should be erected "A splendid Library and Museum of the monumental design and fitting environment contemplated, will supply an urgent present need, typifying the patriotic and intelligent spirit of the Commonwealth today; and stand a hundred years hence to proclaim with dignity the high character and citizenship in 1916." Charter schools are deregulated public schools that gain freedom from regulation in return for meeting the goals of their establishing charter. Over the past decade charter schools have proven an effective way to promote parental choice, high standards, and local control. But these gains have not been achieved without a fight. In California, charter applicants must win approval from the local school district for their charter, a contract enabling them to operate as a public school with independent oversight. Only if rejected can they appeal to the state. While most of the 344 public charter schools in California have charters from their home school districts, many have gone to an outside district for approval, a move permitted under state law. The state board of education granted charters in two cases, one from Oakland. The first cadets are 162 highly motivated seventh-graders, 67 percent male and 90 percent African American or Latino. Parents are highly satisfied with the tough standards and discipline. Plans are set to expand OMI through high school.
