School of Creative and Performing Arts
Application Program Code 12211
Humber Lakeshore Campus
Four semesters, beginning in September
Applicants with postsecondary education, please refer to the Comedy: Writing and Performance postgraduate program , listed in the 2004.2005 Full-Time Postgraduate Calendar. This two-year, postsecondary program in comedy is the first of its kind anywhere. The program's primary aim is to polish the craft of comedy whose raw material - the talent to make people laugh - is already evident at an early age. The program's emphasis, then, is on the refinement of the comedian's expression and delivery: the ability to write a funny script, or to perform on stage or on screen in a way that will make people laugh. The program's faculty are all active members of the comedy industry, and an industry presentation for producers, directors, scouts and agents will be arranged for all of Humber's Comedy students. In fact, the first Chair of the advisory board committee was the legendary Steve Allen. Present members include Mark Breslin (CEO, Yuk Yuk's), Rick Moranis, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas (all of SCTV), and George Shapiro (Executive Producer of Seinfeld). Mike Myers, Chevy Chase, Colin Mochrie, and Dave Foley have also participated in our programs. Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) at humber.ca/programfaqs

Performing Arts There is no better city than New York in which to explore theater and the performing arts. From the bright lights of Broadway to comedy clubs to modern dance theaters, the city has always drawn those who aspire toward careers in the performing arts, whether center stage or behind the scenes. The Performing Arts program is geared toward both aspiring and established writers, producers, and performers, providing students the opportunity to learn the business, from the playwright's page to the actor's stage. The Performing Arts program takes a practical approach to the performing arts, offering a variety of courses to suit actors, non-actors, and performing arts enthusiasts of any industry. Students may sign up for classes individually, or may enroll in the Performing Arts Certificate Program. Cosponsored by Continuing and Professional Studies, Baruch College, CUNY. Intro to Playwriting
Through spontaneous games and exercises, this course will enable students to brainstorm about plots, characters, and relationships. Putting the pieces together, students will gain a good grasp of the art of the scene, story dynamics, texture, plot, and character development. Students will be encouraged to write dialogue in their own unique styles and voices. Geared toward the beginning playwright.
