Dental Medicine Patient
Care Center
3200 South University Drive, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl 33328
The Dental Medicine Patient Care Center, located in Nova Southeastern University's newly constructed College of Dental Medicine building, offers patients both comprehensive and specialty care within a university setting. This care, has also been expanded to our new Satellite Dental Clinic located in North Miami Beach. You can choose from one of four affordable treatment options providing standard dental care as well as care in the specialities of orthodontics (braces), pediatric dentistry (children's dentistry), endodontics (root canal therapy), periodontics (gum disease, implants), oral surgery (extractions) and prosthetics (complete and removable partial dentures, crowns, bridges).
Pre-Doctoral Program
The Pre-Doctoral program is a faculty supervised student training program, based on comprehensive care for all patients. Each patient receives a complete examination with the appropriate type and number of x-rays, designated to the individual's oral health needs as determined by faculty. A comprehensive treatment plan will be developed from these x-rays and presented to the patient for written approval. All pre-doctoral students are supervised by Nova Southeastern faculty.

Programme code The research within the 'Implants for application in oral surgery' research programme is directed towards biodegradable osteosynthesis (I) and dental implants (II): Ad I.
The 'Development and evaluation of biodegradable osteosynthetic materials' subprogramme has, as its objective, the development of bioresorbable osteosyntheses. To this end, the following studies are being performed:
  • the synthesis of biodegradable polymers with a high tensile strength, elasticity modulus and impact resistance; the testing of the degradation and biocompatibility of these biodegradable polymers in vitro and in vivo the development of the range of instruments for bending and fixing of the biodegradable polymers that are developed, and of methods for the sterilisation of and packaging of these polymers; the development and testing of osteosyntheses made out of these biodegradable polymers, in vitro and in vivo
  • Ad II. The 'Evaluation of various dental implantation systems for the rehabilitation of the edentate patient' subprogramme has, as its objective, the development, evaluation and optimisation of various treatment modalities for this group of patients. Aspects that play a role here are: the choice for a conventional complete dental prosthesis or a prosthesis supported by implants, the choice for a certain implantation system, the determination of the number of implants that are necessary, the assessment and enlargement where required of the amount of available bone at the desired implant position, the transmission of mastication forces to the implants and the jawbone, the operation procedure and the (pre)prosthetic procedures. To these ends, the following studies are currently being carried out:

Cosmetic dentistry includes techniques for enhancing the appearance of your teeth, such as bleaching, bonding, and veneers. Anesthesia We provide oral surgery, including extractions and bony surgery, for both inpatients and outpatients. Splinting and emergency services are available for patients with trauma- related injuries. Dental Implant Services are available for the surgical placement and restoration of the implant. Dental implants can be placed into the bone structure of the jaws to provide stability and aid in retention of partial and full dentures, or to replace single teeth.

Osseointegrated titanium implant with artificial crown attached via a transmucosal abutment Patient Assessment for Suitability for Dental Implants All patients are first assessed clinically for suitability for implant supported oral rehabilitation. The limiting factor in the majority of cases is the presence of sufficient quantity and quality of bone in the residual ridges. Patients are examined for sufficient height and width of available bone to accommodate the implant fixture. Diagnostic imaging with x-rays and sometimes even CT scans are performed. In cases where insufficient bone exists, grafting procedures can be an option. Multiplanar-reformatted computerised tomography (CT) scan to determine bone available for implant placement during treatment planning phase Multiple bucco-lingual slices following patient's dental arch Sequential bucco-lingual views giving life-size view of bony ridge width and configuration

Continuing Dental Education (CDE) is housed within the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. The goal of CDE is to provide practicing dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and dental laboratory technicians with high quality educational experiences that impart knowledge, teach new skills, and encourage appropriate attitudes. It is hoped that these experiences will help bridge the gap between new and emerging technologies and the demands of daily dental practice. In an effort to fulfill this goal, CDE offers a broad range of educational experiences which include: Lecture and Participation Courses These educational experiences include one-day lecture programs, hands-on courses as well as multi-day clinical programs.
