Illinois EPA Asks Illinois Attorney General To Take Enforcement Action Over Asbestos-Contaminated Masonry Building Blocks
For Immediate Release October 16, 2003 Contact: Dennis McMurray TDD: 217-782-9143 Springfield, Ill. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency today requested that the Illinois Attorney General's Office take enforcement action against a Missouri firm that shipped exterior decorative masonry building blocks containing asbestos, that were recently discovered in an Illinois school. The enforcement referral followed recent sampling results that confirmed that at least three of the blocks used in construction of a new athletics facility building at the Williamsville High School in Sangamon County contained chrysotile asbestos. A janitor at the school earlier this month observed foreign material in some of the split-faced exterior blocks."The manufacture of new asbestos-containing materials has been banned by federal law since 1989 and we want a complete investigation of how this material showed up in masonry building blocks and steps taken to address any contamination that has occurred," said Illinois EPA Director Renee Cipriano.

http://www-conted.music.uiuc.edu/info.html
Faculty
The ISYM instructional staff includes nationally-recognized conductors and music educators, many of whom are faculty members from the University of Illinois School of Music. Each year, prominent junior and senior high school specialists also are selected to make up the dedicated and effective teaching staff.
Counseling Staff
The counseling staff is composed of dedicated men and women, many of whom are active public school teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and counseling skills. Counselors are responsible for the supervision of all student activities outside the class day and are on 24-hour call throughout the duration of the camp.
Housing and Food
Students are scheduled to be housed in Florida Avenue Residence Halls on the University of Illinois campus. These are air-conditioned residence halls situated somewhat apart from the mainstream of campus activities. Most campers share a room with a fellow camper. Roommates are assigned on the basis of age and camp in which they participate. A choice of roommate may occur prior to the beginning of camp by indicating such on the initial Application/Music History Form. Each floor of the residence hall has its own counselor who lives on that floor. All campers must be in their rooms by 10:00 p.m. Most meals are selected by university dieticians, and are prepared and served in a residence hall cafeteria.
