    http://www.iltrails.org/rwdx.htm
Research by Mrs. E. S. Walker
Published by the Illinois Historical Association
    http://www.iltrails.org/
This material may not be copied, in whole or in part, and resubmitted to any mailing list, bulletin board, website (personal or otherwise), archive, pay per view website or published in any other manner without my express, written permission Prior to 1920, the Illinois Historical Association published the research of Mr. E. S. Walker, regarding the Revolutionary War soldiers that were buried in Illinois. We hope to complete this project, listing all soldiers by county listed in Mrs. Walker's research. If you have any additions, please submit them to Susan , along with a copy of your soldier's RW pension. Misc. RW Pensioners and RW Pensioners from the year 1835, can be found HERE
Introduction, circa 1912 Illinois can claim but few spots famous in the era of the American Revolution; but around the names of old Fort Massac, Kaskaskia and Fort Gage, cluster priceless historic memories. Now that Fort Massac has become the property of the State of Illinois, and has been transformed into a beautiful State Park, the people of the entire State may take pride in its preservation. To The D. A. R. of Illinois, this old fort becomes a point of more than ordinary interest; it was fitting that they should have been actively engaged in building a Monument there, which stands to-day an object lesson for us and for future generations, a reminder of what George Rogers Clark and his band of faithful followers did for the nation, for Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and the whole Northwest.

Hi, my name is Nancy Piper and I am the host for Putnam, Bureau, Woodford, LaSalle and Marshall Counties. My ancestors came to Illinois over 150 years ago and settled in the tiny village of Florid, which is no longer even a name on a map. I've always been a "history buff" and these pages let me help share the world my "findings". On these pages you will find the information pertaining to the history of Putnam County. Our goal is to have available free of charge as much information as possible and will be adding continuously to these pages, so check back often. Due to increased responsibility and I change in hours at my "regular" job, I am unable to do any personal research. NOTICE:

Native Languages of the Americas: Miami-Illinois (Maumee, Twightwee, Peoria)
Language: Miami and Illinois are dialects of the same Algonquian language, spoken in Indiana and later Oklahoma. Though no native speakers of the language remain, language revival efforts are ongoing, and children from both the Miami and Peoria nations are learning to speak their ancestral language again.
People: The Illiniwek (sometimes known as the Illini Confederacy, though they were actually more of a large tribe than a true confederacy) were the dominant natives of the Illinois area that now bears their name. Peoria and Kaskaskia are the sub-tribes of the Illini nation from which most surviving Illinois descend the Miami Indians are not an Illinois subtribe but a separate nation, despite a shared language and a long history of alliance. The Illinois were relocated to Kansas and then Oklahoma in the 1800's, where 2000 of them remain today.
History: The Miami and Illinois Indians were close relatives with nearly identical culture and language, but distinct political affiliation. Both nations were really loose confederations of several independent tribes, so it's unclear what caused some tribes to group together as Miami and some as Illini. The Illinois tribe was the more powerful of the two, until an Illinois man murdered the controversial but much-loved Chief Pontiac of the

Though no native speakers of the language remain, language revival efforts are ongoing, and children from both the Miami and Peoria nations are learning to speak their ancestral language again.
People: The Miami Indians (Maumee or Myaamia, also called Twightwee or Twatwa by some of their neighbors) live in two groups, one of about 2000 Miami in Oklahoma and one of about 6000 in Indiana. The two groups consider themselves the same people, but only the Oklahoma tribe is recognized by the American government. Though the Illinois speak the same language the Miami do and the two are historical allies, they have always considered themselves politically distinct.
History: The Miami and Illinois Indians were very close relatives with nearly identical culture and language, but distinct political affiliation. Both nations were really loose confederations of several independent tribes, so perhaps there was some political rift which caused some tribes to group together as Miami and some as Illini. The Illini tribe was the more powerful of the two, until an Illinois man murdered the controversial but much-loved Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa Tribe then almost every tribe of the central US except their kin the Miami turned on the Illini in a vengeful war that left only a few hundred survivors, mostly women and children. The Miami, meanwhile, were trying to fight off attempts by the young United States to drive them from their Ohio lands. With the alliance of the
