Purpose Curriculum Support Faculty Education Purpose The Office of Education and Curriculum (OEC) provides assistance to faculty in developing and evaluating the undergraduate medical education program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. It also promotes the School of Medicine's work in educational development and research activities at the national and international level by assisting the faculty in the dissemination of their teaching and educational research efforts. Purpose
The Office of Education and Curriculum (OEC) provides assistance to faculty in developing and evaluating the undergraduate medical education program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. It also promotes the School of Medicine's work in educational development and research activities at the national and international level by assisting the faculty in the dissemination of their teaching and educational research efforts.
Functions
Assessment
Working with the year directors, unit chairs, tutors, and faculty, OEC staff in the Professional Development Laboratory, Clinical Assessment Unit, and Educational Resources Unit assist in the development of patient cases for use in performance-based examinations, standardized patient identification and training, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) stations, and computer-based examinations. Clinical Competency Examination (CCX) software serves as the basis for most performance-based examinations. Two assessment software products (LxRTest and QuestionMark Perception) are also available for paper, scanned, and web-based examination development, administration, item analysis, and reporting.     CHAPTER 2: TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP SKILLS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY Alabama: Making the Case for Educational Technology
    Because of a shortage in revenue in FY03, the Alabama legislature cut many educational programs, one of which was technology. In fact, state funding for technology to the local school districts was cut from $181 per teacher to zero. At the annual Alabama Education Technology Association Symposium, district technology leaders and superintendents met in roundtable discussions concerning the funding crisis. Their discussions led to the exploration of the question, "Do our leaders really understand what would happen in our schools if the technology was suddenly turned off?" The concept of a "Technology Blackout Day" was conceived. After further discussions it was decided that turning off all of the technology for a day would be unsafe to the school children. Therefore, a more positive approach was taken to educate key decision makers on the value of technology in our educational system. A

    Organized as a non-profit organization, ICISP provides member institutions study abroad programs for students, short-term cultural exchange opportunities for faculty members, opportunities for faculty to teach abroad for a semester in England, curriculum development opportunities for faculty, J-1 visa services, and more. ICISP seeks to be a very active organization providing leadership in international areas to its members institutions, their faculty and students.     I n this issue of Education E-Notes , you will find out about the professional activities, as well as general notes of interest, of the College of Education's faculty, staff, and students in our collaborative quest to be exemplary educators in a community of learners. Advisement Services - The advising team for CoE has seen approximately 300 new students for the fall (regular admit + CHANCE students) and there still is three weeks of orientation left. Tyronne Dixon (ETRA student) has been selected as a Carter G. Woodson Scholar for the 2002-2003 academic year. CoE Technology Services - Beginning the week of July 1, CoE Technology Services will begin performing software upgrades on all computers in the College. Technology Services will attempt to give each area 2 days prior notice to their scheduled upgrade time. As a part of this upgrade, each computer will receive a new version of the Novell Netware Client, enhanced anti-virus software, and the newest version of GroupWise. The upgrades will be performed in the following order:
