While many of these links are not specifically homeschool-oriented, I include them because they do provide information about a variety of information about the aspects of raising challenged and gifted children. We would like to have more information and links specifically dealing with home education for parents with these very special kids. If you know of a site that deals with this home education subject or would like to post an article about this subject, please let us know . Preference is given to pages with content, not just lists of links. Personal stories are very powerful and can provide untold support to folks who may be going down a road you have already travelled. Why Challenged and Gifted Resources are on the same page: In your webmaster's search for web-info on this subject, she found that, in many cases, challenges and special giftings occur with the same child; thus, you may have a child with a 160 IQ who can't sit still or focus on anything for more than 30 seconds. Since none of us nor our children fit neatly into little cookie-cutter packages, it was thought best to have both in one place for your convenience. ADHD of the Christian Kind

HOW TO HELP

A Parent's Guide to Special Ed / Special Needs Part II - Resources Friends of Special Education does not endorse any of the groups or agencies listed, nor do we make any representations as to how effective or ineffective they are in providing services. The following list of resources includes federal, state and local agencies mandated to provide services to children with special needs; legal assistance agencies and programs that specialize in special education and/or human rights/discrimination/disability issues; and advocacy and support groups. Some listings and descriptions of services provided were obtained from the Directory of Self-Help and Mutual Aid Groups (8th Ed.), 1996-97 edition of the Human Care of Metropolitan Chicago Services Directory, Directory of State Services for People with Disabilities, and a resource list compiled by the Family Resource Center on Disabilities. For some listings, there may be several addresses and phone numbers if the agency or group has several offices throughout the state. Other listings that may have more than one office may only list one address and phone number for intake and referral to the office closest to you.
