The reports are also available from the authors. Findings from the past YAR reports suggest that there are a number of questions that are important for understanding project sustainability. These include:
  • Is the project meeting its original goals? Is the project maintaining or expanding rather than reducing efforts to meet its goals? Does the project have secure future funding?
There are a number of factors that facilitate program sustainability and are incorporated into this report. These factors include: Program flexibility, Adequate and qualified staff, Collaboration within communities and involvement by the communities, Adequate and long-term funding, and the Ability to demonstrate impact. The central questions addressed in this report are:
  • What is the current status of the 94 Youth at Risk projects four years after funding ended?

EB-67, July 1996 Frayne Olson , Assistant Director
Quentin Burdick Center For Cooperatives A renewed interest in cooperative agri-businesses is sweeping across the Northern Plains. These new cooperatives are structured differently than traditional farm supply and elevator cooperatives. The new venture cooperatives are focused on processing and marketing processed products rather than supplying production inputs or marketing raw agricultural commodities. They require producer members to supply raw commodities for processing through marketing contracts, and tie the amount of commodity supplied to the purchase of equity stock in the cooperative. The new cooperatives are selling enough equity stock shares, and related delivery rights, to meet the cooperatives' financial needs and ensure peak use of processing facilities. A combination of factors make the decision about becoming a member in a new venture cooperative unique and complex. This publication is designed to identify the key aspects of that decision by asking five questions. They are:

Steve Enger
Fall Family Fun on the Farm
The roots of farming run deep for Steve and Dorothy Enger. Steve's great great grandfather homesteaded in a township named after him southwest of Hatton. Steve is the 5th generation to farm. Dorothy grew up on a farm listening to stories her parents told about her great grandparents. They were early pioneers and homesteaded the land on which her family farmed and raised her brothers and sister. The farm on which the Enger's are now living was homesteaded in 1885. Steve has been farming in the Hatton area for 25 years raising conventional crops and vegetables. Since 1997, they and their daughter, Jennie, have been doing Fall Family Fun on the Farm. It began as a church project to raise money for Heifer Project International. Now their farm is shared with farm and non-farm f amilies. They want others to experience the farm.
