Illinois - A State Unit Study This mini unit on ILLINOIS uses the cross curricular approach to education. There are several activities from different academic subjects for you to choose from. One of the most important things is to have fun! Below are some activities to help you study ILLINOIS. You may choose to do all, some, or none of the activities. You can also alter the activities to better suit your individual child's needs. Some of these activities overlap each other, choose the one you think that you and the children will enjoy most. The main point of this unit is to make learning about ILLINOIS and enjoyable for all who are participating. Illinois's State Flag The Illinois flag is a simple representation of the Great Seal of Illinois against a white background. In 1969, the General Assembly voted to add the word "ILLINOIS" under the Great Seal of the flag. The State's name was added to the flag to ensure that people not familiar with the Great Seal of Illinois would still recognize the banner. Flag adopted 1915. Create a State "Infodesk": Before you begin this unit you may want to set up a research area. Place a desk or table in front of a bulletin board area. This will be where you can place relevant books, magazines, photographs, posters, newspaper articles, maps, scrapbooks, games, puzzles, computer software, task cards, travel brochures, etc. that you collect.

Why This Goal Is Important:

George Santayana said "those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." In a broader sense, students who can examine and analyze the events of the past have a powerful tool for understanding the events of today and the future. They develop an understanding of how people, nations, actions and interactions have led to today's realities. In the process, they can better define their own roles as participating citizens. As a result of their schooling students will be able to: Learning Standards Early Elementary Late Elementary Middle/Junior High School Early High School Late High School A.

27. Bi-State Regional Commission - Transportation Authority Vision
Unlike every existing bridge between illinois and Iowa, the East System (NHS) norare there any state or federal is the responsibility of the Quad cities Area.

Your browser does not support script Contact Help document.write(doClock("W0",", ","M0"," ","D0",", ","Y0")); Transportation Authority Vision The Challenge The Quad Cities is blessed with an abundance of rivers throughout the region with the crown jewel being the mighty Mississippi River. However, the area is challenged to provide for adequate bridge crossings to span these rivers. Fortunately, most of the bridges are on designated state or federal highways, and thus have access to a larger source of funding. However, the eastern half of the metropolitan area which is experiencing much of the area's growth has a nine mile gap where currently no crossing of the Mississippi River exists. A plan has been developed and approved by local leaders which identifies the need for a new bridge closing the gap between Bettendorf and East Moline. Traffic using the new bridge is forecast to be 21,000 vehicles daily if constructed by the year 2020. For clearer reference, the new bridge shall be referred to as the "East Bridge" in this report. Unlike every existing bridge between Illinois and Iowa, the East Bridge corridor is not designated as part of the National Highway System (NHS) nor are there any state or federal routes which could be aligned across the bridge. Therefore, construction and maintenance of the East Bridge is the responsibility of the Quad Cities Area. Studies have shown that using tolls to support a new facility is not feasible. The county and municipal governments making up the Quad Cities area do not have the resources to collectively support the expense of any Mississippi River crossing. Therefore, a funding mechanism would need to be created.

1. What You Can Do with a Degree in Women's Studies
A. Employment Skills You Gain With a Liberal Arts Education
Women's studies provides you with all the benefits of a liberal arts degree. Liberal arts education emphasizes critical thinking, which can be applied to a multitude of careers. It demonstrates to a potential employer that you have the confidence, skills, and maturity to earn a college degree; that you are well-rounded, having studied a wide variety of topics rather than one narrow skill area; that you likely are able to think more globally than many other job applicants. Managers often prefer liberal arts majors because they think they are better at organizing material, writing well, and making oral presentations. Moreover, a Women's Studies major equips you with significant additional advantages... B. Additional Employment Skills You Gain With a WS Degree
C. Fields of Graduate Study That WS Majors Have Pursued

  • 1. What jobs are available for archaeologists?
Professional archaeologists work for universities, colleges, museums, the federal government, state governments, in private companies, and as consultants. They teach, conduct field investigations, analyze artifacts and sites, and publish the results of their research. The minimal educational requirement to work as a field archaeologist is a B.A. or B.S. degree with a major in anthropology or archaeology and previous field experience (usually obtained by spending a summer in an archaeological field school or participating as a volunteer, see question 5). While this is sufficient to work on an archaeological field crew, it is not sufficient to move into supervisory roles. Supervisory positions require a graduate degree, either an M.A./M.S. or a Ph.D. Academic Positions Museum Positions . Museums may be connected with a university or independent. Museum curators conduct research, publish the results, give public presentations, prepare displays, and conserve the museum collections. Museum positions require a graduate degree (M.A./M.S. or Ph.D.). Museum positions are usually full-year appointments.

In 1991, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) began the full-scale National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) program. The long term goals of the NAWQA program are to describe the status of, and trends in, the quality of a large, representative part of the Nation's surface- and ground-water resources and to identify the major natural and human factors that affect the quality of these resources. In addressing these goals, the program will produce a wealth of water quality information that will be useful to policy makers and managers at the National, State, and local levels. The NAWQA program emphasis is on regional scale water-quality problems. The program will not diminish the need for smaller scale studies. and monitoring presently designed and implemented by State, Federal, and local agencies to meet specific needs. The NAWQA program, however, will provide a framework for understanding the regional and national water-quality conditions that cannot be acquired from smallscale programs and studies. Study-unit investigations of 60 hydrologic systems that include parts of most major river basins and aquifer systems throughout the Nation are the building blocks of the national assessment. The 60 study units range in size from 1,000 to more than 60,000 mi

One of the first steps in the quest to eliminate PVC (and thus DEHP) from healthcare facilities, is to identify which products contain PVC. HCWH has developed a PVC/DEHP Audit Tool (pdf) to aid in this process. Case Studies HCWH has been working with health care facilities to phase out the use of PVC.
