    6. Applying For Teacher Certification.
APPLYING FOR idaho teacher certification. If you wish to be certificate in the State of Idaho or any other state, you must apply.
    http://coehp.boisestate.edu/secondary_advising/certification.htm
APPLYING FOR IDAHO TEACHER CERTIFICATION If you wish to be certificate in the State of Idaho or any other state, you must apply. You should apply for certification at the time you are eligible because requirements change from year to year. If you do not plan to teach immediately, we strongly recommend that you still apply for your credential. We do NOT suggest that you wait until you start to teach before you complete the certification process. Some school districts will hold your paycheck until proof of certification is received. When you have completed your Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and have met all Teacher Education requirements, the Dean of the College of Education will recommend to the State Department of Education that you be issued a teaching certificate. Application is made in the Office of the Dean (E-704 / 426-1134). You need to complete three forms (available in the Office of the Dean, College of Education). You should complete your paperwork for certification at least one month in advance of graduation or completion of the certification program "Student Request for Idaho Teacher Certification Recommendation"

    7. Secondary Education Option
of these requirements, and they often overlap university requirements, Boise State Teacher Education requirements, and idaho teacher certification requirements
    http://coehp.boisestate.edu/secondary_advising/option.htm
THE SECONDARY EDUCATION OPTION PROGRAM DECLARING A MAJOR
All secondary education students at Boise State complete a BA/BS degree in the discipline that they intend to teach. For example, if you intend to teach biology, your major will be Biology, Secondary Education, and your academic advisor will be in the Biology Department. If you intend to teach Art, your degree will be Art Education, and your advisor will be in the Art Department. So it is with any discipline that you might choose and there are approximately 20 secondary education programs to choose from. Thus you do not major in "education," but in a content subject, and your academic advisor is in that department. The Teacher Education Advising Office will gladly help you with questions about teacher education requirements, but not questions related to your major. SECONDARY EDUCATION PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
If you follow your Secondary Education Option checklist (shown with your major in the Boise State catalog), you will meet all requirements that must be completed before becoming a teacher. There are three sets of these requirements, and they often overlap university requirements, Boise State Teacher Education requirements, and

    Overview of the past standards

The past standards for initial certification in Idaho were based on the 1989 National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) standards. The old standards were "input-based", meaning a candidate was recommended for initial certification based on credits and content of courses successfully completed (transcript review). Example - Past (input-based) Standard Format, Biological Science:
Twenty (20) semester credit hours to include at least six (6) credit hours of course work in EACH of the following areas: Botany and Zoology (some course work in physiology is also recommended). The standards were seriously outdated, and Idaho was in danger of losing its partnership with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), which is the nationally recognized teacher education program accreditation body.
