School funding vote on Tuesday Jun 09, 2004
The ballot benignly asks: "Do you want the state to pay 55 percent of the cost of public education, which includes all special education costs, for the purpose of shifting costs from the property tax to state resources?" The measure is intended to force school funding to come from sources other than property taxes. An organization calling itself, "Mainers for Real and Responsible Tax Relief" (MRRTR), opposes the Maine Municipal Association's (MMA) referendum. (Advertiser Democrat)
