The Fort Worth Independent School District, which is one of the worst managed organizations on Earth, has decided to attack private and Church schools. They don't like competition of any kind.Church schools do not have to meet the same requirments as public schools do since they are privately funded and they fall under exeptions from the religious freedoms restoration act. Fort Worth Can Academy, a FWISD alternative school has no certified teachers employed, and tells ever student to not go to any private or religious school. They are told to inform all students by Mrs. garcia that church schools and parochial, private schools are not true schools since they are not part of the state. Should we just take this? Our school district started in 1898. The Old Roman catholic School District. I wonder whaat FWISD was doing in 1898? Not much since there was not even a city here when our church opened it's school and began teaching children in that year.

Charter School Defined
A charter school is a new and alternative form of public education, free from most of the restrictive laws that govern traditional public schools. In return for this freedom, a charter school in Idaho operates under a five-year contract which may be renewed if the school meets its performance goals. Idaho's sixteen charter schools serve a diverse range of students and feature alternative and/or unique instructional programs. NEW!

Sample Selection
Information from the pilot study helped guide the allocation of the total sample to the two major categories of districts: districts that reported alternative schools in the CCD and those that did not report alternative schools in the CCD. Within each category, the samples were further allocated to district size strata (less than 2,500, 2,500 to 9,999, 10,000 or more) in rough proportion to the aggregate square root of the enrollment in the stratum. The sampling frame was also ordered by metropolitan status (urban, suburban, rural) and region (Northeast, Southeast, Central, West) to induce additional implicit stratification. Within each primary stratum, districts were selected systematically and with equal probabilities. The sampling frame constructed consisted of 14,619 regular public school districts during the 1998–99 school year. After the stratum sample sizes were determined, a final sample of 1,609 districts was systematically selected from the sorted file using independent random starts. The 50 states and the District of Columbia were included in the sample, while school districts in the outlying U.S. territories were excluded. Districts are of three types: unified, secondary, and elementary. Unified districts serve students across all grade levels and comprised 83 percent of the total sample (table A-1). Secondary districts comprised 2 percent, and elementary districts (i.e., serving grades no higher than grade 8) comprised 15 percent of the sample.

Schools are keeping pace with today’s cyber world
By DANA DUGAN
Express Staff Writer
If we can shop, make travel plans, and chat online, why can’t high school students actually take classes? Well, now in Idaho and several other states in the country, they can. Thanks to a last minute lobbying effort by former Blaine County School District Superintendent Phil Homer, a bill was presented to the Idaho Legislature in January expanding the charter school statute to allow creation of an Idaho Virtual High School. The bill was sponsored by the Idaho Superintendents Association. The school received its charter from the Mountain Home School Board of Trustees. The benefits of distance learning and online instruction are many, said Larry Slade, principal of the Idaho Virtual High School based in Mountain Home. He is also the principal of the Richard McKenna Alternative School in Mountain Home.

    SCHOOLS FROM THE PAST
CAMPUS SCHOOL - 2100 COLLEGE BOULEVARD
Campus School opened in 1953. It was a twelve room school located on the campus of Boise Junior College. The school provided college students in the field of education a place for practice teaching under Boise School District supervision. The classrooms were built with observation rooms with one-way mirrors. These observation rooms were attached to master teachers' offices. When Boise Junior College became a four year college, space was taken from the Campus School playground area for new construction of buildings. As the college expanded and enrollment increased, space needs became greater, and the Campus playground area progressively became smaller. In 1990, the school was sold to Boise State University and classrooms were converted to offices and teaching spaces. Students who would have attended Campus now go to Garfield and Riverside Elementary Schools.
CENTRAL SCHOOL - 610 North Seventh Street
The State Legislature passed a law on February 4, 1881 creating the Independent School District of Boise City No. 1. The School District began operations in the large Central School building in September, 1882. The school housed four grades; primary, secondary, grammar, and high school. Central was the only public high school during the territorial period. The original building was located at 8th and Jefferson (the site of the State Capitol Senate Chambers).
