Creekmur, Director See the full spring schedule Crossing Borders 2004 Convocation The Road to Enlightenment THE INSTITUTE FOR CINEMA AND CULTURE Since its inception almost two decades ago under the guidance of Professor Dudley Andrew and with the support the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Institute for Cinema and Culture (ICC) at the University of Iowa has consistently promoted international film culture in an interdisciplinary context to the university and local communities. Through regular film series (including each semester's Proseminar in Cinema and Culture offered through the Department of Cinema and Comparative Literature ), prominent guest speakers, and special events, the ICC has exposed students, faculty, and local communities to Greek, Indian, Yugoslav, French Canadian, and Taiwanese cinemas, among many others. Recently, for example, the ICC has programmed semester-long series of recent Iranian cinema, Asian film noir, and Icelandic cinema for large and appreciative audiences often encountering these examples of international cinema for the first time. The ICC also regularly supports guest speakers, ranging from rising experimental and documentary filmmakers to Hollywood professionals, along with many of the world's most prominent film scholars and critics.
