... Abstract An Electrochemical Solution to the Hydrogen Energy Problem is presented, in the form of superconducting Electrochemical oxidation and reduction reactions of the Alkali/Metal - Group V - Halide/Salts of Nitrogen Phosphorus and Bismuth . This entirely new class of Compounds , which are called the Superconducting Electrohydrides , are deduced by the application of the BCS-BOSE Model of High Temperature Superconductivity to the Periodic Table of the Elements . They consist of Sodium Ammonia Solutions at the Fermi-Liquid extreme, and f.c.c. Bismuth (I) Iodide at the Bose-Einstein Condensation extreme. Interpolation between these limits admits a Sodium Zinc Hydrogen Phosphide material. Metal-Insulator Transitions occuring in these Compounds result in various transitions from the metallic BCS Fermi-Liquid regime, to the fluctuating Bose-Einstein Condensed (non) metallic state. The Oxidation of these highly reduced and reactive Electrohydride Compounds results in various transformations of Electrical Thermal and Optical Energy up to the level of Quantum Unit Efficiency . The physical realization of the Electrochemistry of the oxidation and reduction reactions of these new Superconducting Electrohydrides leads directly to several idealized forms of Energy conversion.

WASHINGTON (04/20/04) Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham and Brazilian Mines and Energy Minister Rousseff have announced a collaborative effort to advance hydrogen sector research, development and deployment activities, both bilaterally and multilaterally. “We look forward to working closely with our Brazilian partners as we leverage our efforts to pursue the promise of hydrogen energy,” Secretary Abraham said. “I have every confidence that, through such collaboration, we will indeed transform this world from one overly dependent on fossil fuels to one powered in large part by clean and abundant hydrogen.” The effort is to be launched by establishing a joint team of U.S. and Brazilian officials and experts to develop a hydrogen energy technology roadmap for Brazil. This roadmap is to consider possible pathways for future hydrogen production, storage, transfer, end-use technologies, safety codes and standards, and outreach/communication efforts. The U.S. and Brazil are two of the founding members of the International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy (IPHE). On November 20, 2003, Secretary Abraham and representatives from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Commission, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, Russia and the United Kingdom signed an agreement formally establishing the IPHE as an international mechanism to coordinate hydrogen research and technology development.

H NET UK Hydrogen Energy Network The UK Hydrogen Energy Network (H NET) has recently been established as a joint collaboration between industry and academia. Its principal aim is to promote research and discussion on issues connected with the development of the hydrogen energy economy within the UK. The formation of the Network has been prompted by current international developments in the technologies underpinning a hydrogen energy economy. The Network's objectives are to enhance the current profile of hydrogen energy research in the UK by:
  • identifying research requirements and facilitating the development of academic/industrial collaborations in the UK; providing a forum for the discussion of research, development, and implementation issues related to hydrogen energy exploitation; disseminating information relating to state of the art research in the hydrogen energy economy.
These objectives will largely be achieved through a regular series of workshops and seminars, backed up by a web site and e-mail discussion group. The Network is guided by a steering committee drawn from industrial groups and university departments. H

Printable Version What if hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, could power everything from automobiles and trucks to homes and office buildings with little or no toxic or greenhouse gas emissions? Welcome to the dream of the "hydrogen economy."
Does it seem like fantasy? For now, perhaps. But with many sharp minds focused on the science and some carefully directed private and public investment, this fantasy could become part of our everyday lives.
In fact, liquid hydrogen is already being used to send our spacecrafts into orbit, and the most promising of hydrogen technologies, the fuel cell, is already powering city buses in Chicago, office buildings in New York and homes in Tokyo. If so, why can't we buy hydrogen-powered cars or pick up a fuel cell generator at the neighborhood hardware store? The primary reason, as is often the case with early-stage technologies, is the high cost. However, many other issues complicate the mainstreaming of hydrogen and fuel cells, including where we get the hydrogen and how we should distribute and store it.

http://www.nelsonengrco.com/hydrogen_energy/
Nelson Engineering Co. supports the eventual shift to hydrogen as the fuel source to meet the world's future energy needs. Hydrogen is far better than fossil fuels and is consistent with our sustainable development philosophy. The recent rollout of new fuel cell vehicles by major automobile manufacturers proves the viability of hydrogen application technologies. We believe the current limiting factors to a hydrogen economy are technical challenges involved in the infrastructure associated with hydrogen production, delivery and storage. While hydrogen infrastructure technologies are in their infancy, our company is proactive in developing and integrating new hydrogen technologies for practical use. Our goal is to provide supporting engineering services to will enable cost effective hydrogen use for the future.
Our company experience with operations, maintenance and safety services for hydrogen infrastructures dates to 1994 in support of the aerospace industry . [Some of our key staff have hydrogen experience that predates the company experience]. Our company work began with Lockheed Martin in support of NASA's Flyback Booster Program. This program was to convert Shuttle solid-fueled Solid Rocket Boosters to a liquid hydrogen-fueled booster that would fly back to earth after it was used for launch. Our infrastructure development studies involved effectively expanding the current liquid hydrogen storage capabilities at both Shuttle launch pads while using much of the current infrastructure. Our final product included design considerations and cost estimates for this larger hydrogen infrastructure.

Hardbound 198pp ISBN 0306464292 In the future, our energy systems will need to be renewable and sustainable, efficient and cost-effective, convenient and safe. Hydrogen has been proposed as the perfect fuel for this future energy system. The availability of a reliable and cost-effective supply, safe and efficient storage, and convenient end use of hydrogen will be essential for a transition to a Hydrogen Economy. Research is being conducted throughout the world for the development of safe, cost-effective hydrogen production, storage, and end-use technologies that support and foster this transition. This book is a collection of important research and analysis papers on hydrogen production, storage, and end-use technologies that were presented at the American Chemical Society National Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, in August 1999. 99. WNA | Annual Symposium 2002 | Transition To A Nuclear/Hydrogen Energy System
Paper to World Nuclear Association 2002 Annual Symposium, by Dr. Leon Walters on Transition to a Nuclear/hydrogen energy System.
http://www.world-nuclear.org/sym/2002/walters.htm
Transition to a Nuclear/Hydrogen Energy System Drs. Leon Walters , David Wade, and David Lewis Abstract The paper explores the motivation for the transition to a nuclear/hydrogen system. For such a transition to be successful the technologies employed must be able to generate enough hydrogen to displace a significant fraction of the petroleum fuels used in the transportation and process heat sectors. This hydrogen must be generated in a manner that is compatible with the environment and independent of foreign fuels. Nuclear energy, along with contributions from wind, solar, and geothermal resources, meet the criteria of environmental compatibility and resource independence. However, nuclear energy is the only one of these sources that has a high enough energy density to generate copious quantities of hydrogen. The status of the relevant nuclear and hydrogen technologies and how they are coupled to bring about a transition to a nuclear/hydrogen system are discussed. Should the world adopt such a system then the growth rate of nuclear energy would greatly accelerate. With an accelerated growth for nuclear energy, the uranium resources would be depleted in a few decades with the once-through fuel cycle currently in use. It is pointed out that deployment of fast breeder reactors would become important in the nearer term.
