Hundred Years War - 1337 to 1453 The Hundred Years' War began in 1337, when Edward III claimed the French throne through his mother Isabella, a daughter of the King of France. The fighting continued until 1453 when the English finally gave up their claim to the French throne, although the 'fleur de lys', the emblem of the French kings, still appears upon the English Royal Standard. Edward III The first major battle in the Hundred Years' War was in 1340, when the English navy defeated the French navy at the Battle of Sluys. This was the first real victory by the English navy. The fighting was more like a land battle, with the ships locked together and a great deal of hand to hand fighting. Much more important was the Battle of Crecy in 1346, which was won by Edward III. The English longbowmen were able to defeat the French knights with their accurate long-range fire. In 1347 Edward took Calais, which was held by the English until 1557. In 1356 he repeated his earlier success at the Battle of Poitiers. Edward's son, Edward the Black Prince , used the same tactics as at Crecy and captured the King of France, his son and many of the French knights. It now seemed that the English would be victorious, but events soon took a turn for the worse.

Music Posters - Visual Music
Modern Music posters are windows onto our cultural past. They are indelible imprints of an era. We have only to look at the swirling colors and hallucinogenic imagery of a 60s rock music poster to remember the peace mixed with war, or glance at a 70s music poster to recall the lights of the disco floor. War For many people however, music posters are merely substitutes for wallpaper. It's not surprising considering
Art that many modern music posters represent a triumph of commerce over art. Still, this view ignores the rich history of the poster and the cultural timeline it represents. Over a century ago, posters were the most important means of visual communication and were considered fine art.
Origins There was a international love affair with the poster and poster artists vied with each other for recognition. Since then, music posters have gone through a long evolution, one in which their appearance and role has constantly changed in order to meet the changing needs of society.
