Objectives
  • Students will identify some of the harmful effects of smoking cigarettes.
  • Students will improve decision-making ability.
  • Students will clarify personal values and attitudes
Materials Procedures
  • Ask the children to define the word, "pollution." Webster's New Word Dictionary of the American Language gives this definition: "Pol-lu-tion: to make unclean, impure, or corrupt; desecrate; defile; contaminate; dirty."

Teacher Resources Lesson 1 Lesson 2 Lesson 3 Lesson 4 Teaching Lesson 1 These lessons are designed to take about two days to complete. The intent of the activities is to introduce the systems of the body to the students. The purpose of reading the children's book, The Magic School Bus: Inside the Human Body by Joanna Cole, is to provoke interest in the study of the systems of the human body. It is to be used as an introductory tool that stimulates the thought processes of the students. Although direct teaching can sometimes be overused in a classroom, it can be used as a very effective teaching technique when learning the names and functions of body systems.
