Our original lesson plans are developed by Thirteen Ed Online Master Teachers. Starting with tried-and-true lessons that work in the classroom, our Web-savvy teachers have built Web-based activities that use the rich resources of Thirteen/WNET New York and the Internet. Each month, we will create new lessons based upon outstanding PBS series and around outstanding Web resources!
Dig Into Ireland
In this lesson, students explore the environment and wildlife of Ireland to find out how they were formed, and how they in turn helped to form Irish culture. Students will watch the program, NATURE, and collect data about Ireland's land and culture from various websites. In small groups they will create a large graphical timeline display, an oral presentation and a written report."
How to Make an Artificial Organ
Programs from Thirteen/WNET New York's INNOVATION series portray amazing breakthroughs in medical technology involving the replacement of tissues and organs damaged by injury or degenerative diseases. "The Human Body Shop" shows progress being made in the development of technologically advanced prosthetics. How close are we to the development of replacement organs which are as good as the original, if not even better? In this lesson, students divide into groups and use a project-based learning approach to develop a model for an artificial replacement organ or limb that may possibly be developed in the not-too-distant future. In the course of designing and creating this model, students use math, science, technology, and mechanics skills.

More Activities
How to Organize While a conversation class may seem like it needs no or limited preparation ("all I have to do is talk to them—I'll bring in my photos from India and we can talk about my trip there."), the opposite is true. Students will more than likely be timid, especially at the beginning, and the purpose of the class is to get them talking, not for you to talk the entire time. If all they wanted was to listen to English, they could go to an American movie and save themselves time and money. Sample Plan I (one hour): Content to be covered: Visit to the doctor/pharmacist Objectives:
  • Review vocabulary: parts of body, where to go to find something (type of store, where in store) Review grammar: command forms of verbs ("Take two aspirin every morning") New vocabulary: ways to describe illness and methods of remedying it New grammar: giving advice "I would recommend" + [verb+ing]

45. Oral-B | Learning Center | Dental Health Lesson Plans For Primary School Teacher
integrating the information in these lesson plans into standards To help you deliver these lessons and prepare teeth, is the hardest material of the human body.
http://www.oralb.com/learningcenter/teaching/lessonoverview.asp
Lesson Plan Overview Lesson One: Plaque Busters Lesson Two: A Little Flossing
Goes a Long Way
Lesson Three: Teeth at Work ... Handouts
Our objective is to help primary school teachers give children an understanding of the importance of good dental health care by integrating the information in these lesson plans into standards-based science, health, math and language arts curriculum.
To help you deliver these lessons and prepare yourself for student questions, we provide the following background information for your dental health unit.
Background Dental Information:
Between the ages of 6 months and around 3 years, the 20 primary or "baby" teeth erupt.
The primary teeth are replaced by 32 permanent teeth. The first 28 erupt between 6 and 13 years, the final 4 third molars, or "wisdom teeth" may erupt between 16-21 years.
Digestion of food begins in the mouth. The teeth cut up and grind the food, and the saliva begins to break it down. We use our tongues to move the food around in our mouths to chew it properly.

Technology-Based Lesson Plans Critiqued by Stacey Phung Body Systems - Human Body Lesson Plan (grades 3-5) can be found at http://school.discovery.com/lessonplans/programs/bodysystems/ This lesson requires students to understand body systems such as the nervous, digestive, and respiratory systems, in order to design, present, and justify an exercise and nutrition plan for an imaginary client. Students begin the lesson by watching a video that describes how each body system work. After viewing the video, they are asked to summarize the function of each of the body system. Students are then to work in a team as personal trainers. They are to use their knowledge of body systems to create a personal exercise and nutrition program for a specific client (there are three clients to choose from). In order to create a client's diet and plan, students need to do some research. To engage students in research, they are provided with websites to learn about the Food Pyramid, exercising, as well as foods that are good for the heart. Once students have completed their research and have used the information they gathered to design a plan for their client, they will present their plan to the class.

This lesson is recommended for grades 3rd-4th, but it could also be used with middle school children as it incorporates creativity and art skills. The students are given the opportunity to discuss the skeletal system and view elk and chicken bones before constructing a skeleton of their own using paper plates. Students are able to see how joints allow the bones to move as well. The skeleton template and final product can be clicked on form within the lesson.
Learning the Skeletal System Using Body Tracing
This lesson guides students to knowledge about bone support, structure, mobility, and protection. Students have the opportunity to trace their own bodies and locate and label specific bones of the body. This lesson is good for those visual and spatial learners who need to see the human body. The lesson also allows for creativity.
