Technology-Based Lesson Plans Critiqued by Stacey Phung Body Systems - Human Body Lesson Plan (grades 3-5) can be found at http://school.discovery.com/lessonplans/programs/bodysystems/ This lesson requires students to understand body systems such as the nervous, digestive, and respiratory systems, in order to design, present, and justify an exercise and nutrition plan for an imaginary client. Students begin the lesson by watching a video that describes how each body system work. After viewing the video, they are asked to summarize the function of each of the body system. Students are then to work in a team as personal trainers. They are to use their knowledge of body systems to create a personal exercise and nutrition program for a specific client (there are three clients to choose from). In order to create a client's diet and plan, students need to do some research. To engage students in research, they are provided with websites to learn about the Food Pyramid, exercising, as well as foods that are good for the heart. Once students have completed their research and have used the information they gathered to design a plan for their client, they will present their plan to the class.
