Introduction
Lice, particularly head lice, are a common reoccurring problem. In Florida, the problem of head louse control has arisen in several communities and schools. Millions of American school children may have head lice some time this year. The increasing incidence of louse infestations throughout the United States affects people on all social and economic levels. Before World War II, head lice were fairly common in the United States, body and crab lice much less so, except among the "less respectable" segments of the population. After World War II and the emergence of DDT as a louse control agent, outbreaks of lice were much less common. Now lice again are intruding into the environment of the average American. Lice or their eggs are easily transmitted from person to person on shared hats, coats, scarves, combs, brushes, towels, bedding, upholstered seats in public places, and by personal contact. These practices are common among young school-age children. As a result, head lice infestations are most prevalent among children, whereas body and pubic (crab) lice are more frequently encountered among young adults and middle-aged persons. When someone becomes infested with lice, it is likely that the entire family will become infested.

    E-mail: liles@msu.edu An ever-increasing number of people make arrangements to leave their bodies for anatomical study, thereby providing a most unique and caring gift. Such people have rendered a significant service after death to their fellow men and women. Each year nearly 250 men and women begin their medical careers at Michigan State University's two medical schools - the College of Human Medicine and the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The curriculum of each college requires anatomical study of the human body. Without the generous gift of donors to the Department of Anatomy's Willed Body Program, the study of anatomy would not be possible. Act 368 of the Public Acts of Michigan 1978, Article 10, Part 101, authorizes an individual to will his or her body after death to any medical institution. Excerpts from this act are printed on the donor form. The three universities in Michigan that have medical schools are Michigan State University, University of Michigan, and Wayne State University. All are designated to receive bodies, and donations may be made to any of these schools. This pamphlet describes the procedure for willing one's body to Michigan State University for medical education and answers commonly asked questions about donation. It also describes our commitment to the dignity and respect of donors.

    March 25, 1993 Terrible diet and room with no ventilation are being blamed for the death of a men who was killed by his own gas. There was no mark on his body but autopsy showed large amounts of methane gas in his system. His diet had consisted of beans (they said what kind; I forgot) cabbage (and a couple other things). It was just the right combination of foods. It appears that the man died in his sleep from breathing from the poisonous cloud that was hanging over his bed. The ME said, had he been outside or had his windows opened it wouldn't have been fatal but the man was shut up in his near airtight bedroom. He was ``...a big man with a huge capacity for creating [this deadly gas].'' Three of the rescue workers got sick and one was hospitalized.

    The Prentice Hall Science Integrated Learning System series is a program for middle school or junior high school students.     BIO 106 Introduction to Anatomy/Physiology/Microbiology
    This course covers the fundamental and principle concepts of human anatomy and physiology and microbiology. Topics include an introduction to the structure and function of cells, tissues, and human organ systems, and an overview of microbiology, epidemiology, and control of microorganisms. Upon completion, students should be able to identify structures and functions of the human body and describe microorganisms and their significance in health and disease. This is a certificate and diploma level course.
