The Intermediate Stages Of The Fish Eye
The page gives a sequence which starts with an eye spot , and ends with a fish eye. There are 8 other kinds of eyes (such as a fly's compound eyes) but this is the sequence leading towards human eyes. The sequence meets the criteria we have already stated, namely:
  • Some of these diagrams show eyes which exist in living creatures.
  • Each step can be taken gradually , as the sum of hundreds or thousands of little changes.
  • Each little change individually improves the quality of the eye.
  • Very few of the changes are mutations. Most are just variations which then became the norm.
The diagram below shows a simple eye spot . Let us assume it is in the skin of a multicellular creature. It has a dark backing, because that makes vision a bit more directional. Next, an inward dimple happens under the eye spot. The eye spot begins to be on the surface of a shallow pit or depression. This increases the visual acuity, and also protects the eye spot from damage. The dimpling continues until the depth of the pit is about equal to its width. This is now much like the eye of a planarian (flatworm). Next, the rim of the pit begins to constrict. In camera terms, the eye begins to have an "aperture".

http://www.edg.com/cpp.html
The C++ Front End
Our C++ front end was started in 1991; it was first released in 1992. It supports the C++ language of the ISO/IEC 14882:2003 standard (the complete language; see our description of language features The front end does complete syntax and semantic analysis, including complete error checking. It produces about 1,300 different error messages. Diagnostics always display the source line with a caret indicating the exact position of the error. The level of diagnostic output can be controlled in various ways. The front end translates source programs into a high-level, tree-structured, in-memory intermediate language. The intermediate language preserves a great deal of source information (e.g., line numbers, column numbers, original types, original names), which is helpful in generating symbolic debugging information. Implicit and overloaded operations in the source program are made explicit in the intermediate language, but constructs are not otherwise added, removed, or reordered. The intermediate language is not machine dependent (e.g., it does not specify registers or dictate the layout of stack frames). The front end can optionally generate raw cross-reference information, which can be used as a basis for building source browsing tools.

Introduction
The first topic in this class is tables. The remainder of the class will deal with Cascading Style Sheets and Accessibility issues. As mentioned in the Intro to HTML course, HTML 4 is the final version of HTML. The new, and future, version of web markup languages are built on XML (Extensible Markup Language). XHTML is an XML recasting of the HTML language. As such, it is much stricter and must follow the rules of XML. Since this a class on HTML, we'll be sticking to HTML instead of XHTML. XHTML may be the "future" of the web, but it will likely be several years before HTML finally dies out ( if ever! ). One of the driving forces behind the move to XHTML is the need to separate content from presentation. This goal is supported with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) . The ultimate goal in these languages is use one (HTML or XHTML) to describe the content of the document, while leaving all presentation to Style Sheets.

    The Programmes
    Urban Livelihoods and Shelter Programme Over one billion people in the world are either homeless or live in very poor housing characterised by overcrowding and lack of adequate accompanying infrastructure services. In most cases they lack secure land tenure and hence are vulnerable to eviction and violence. Formerly known as the Building Materials and Shelter Programme, ULS aims to help marginalized people acquire and control the technologies and skills needed to produce or gain access to durable building materials, decent and affordable housing. The Programme seeks to improve the environmental sustainability of low-income housing and to reduce policy, legal and institutional constraints faced by poor men and women seeking access to shelter. Rural Agriculture and Pastoralism Programme The main aim of RAPP is to increase the food security of people in marginal areas throughout the East African region and to assist marginalised food producers to take greater control of decisions and changes that affect their lives. The Programme is working with farmers and pastoralists in the following areas: Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Tharaka and Kathekani. All RAPP projects incorporate community-based monitoring and evaluation systems in their work. This is in addition to its contribution to policy debates in animal health, biodiversity and plant genetic resources, and indigenous knowledge in development. Other priorities within the programme include conflict resolution, environmental management and gender empowerment.
