The Page you are viewing right now is an HTML document. HTML documents look a lot like word processing documents...
You can have bold and italicized Larger and Smaller , or it could look type-written
Of course, the HTML code for this looks like a bunch of gibberish...
So what are all these "<" and ">" things doing here? When you place a certain thing within these you are making something known as a tag. For example the tag is saying to start bold text, and the tag is saying to stop bold text. The tag with the slash (/) is known as the closing tag. Many opening tags require a following closing tag, but not all do. Tags make up the entire structure of an HTML document.
^^^Opening Tag ^^^^Closing Tag

#1 - Bob jumped OVER the fence.
#2 - Bob jumped UNDER the fence.
You should have noticed that the second code is missing a slash (/) in the tag after the word UNDER, which causes the web browser to interpret the code as leaving the bold face on! This is a common error, so be careful of it! Note: Tags in HTML are NOT case sensitive. For example...

Adding a touch of style
Getting started with HTML
Dave Raggett , revised 13th February 2002. add a touch of style using CSS, and to go on to try out features covered in my page on advanced HTML A convenient way to automatically fix markup errors is to use the HTML Tidy utility. This also tidies the markup making it easier to read and easier to edit. I recommend you regularly run Tidy over any markup you are editing. Tidy is very effective at cleaning up markup created by authoring tools with sloppy habits. p.s. a good way to learn is to look at how other people have coded their html pages. To do this, click on the "View" menu and then on "Source". Try it with this page to see how I have applied the ideas I explain below. You will find yourself developing a critical eye as many pages look rather a mess under the hood! This page will teach you how to:
  • start with a title add headings and paragraphs add emphasis to your text add images add links to other pages use various kinds of lists
If you are looking for something else, try the advanced HTML page.

116. The Gimp
Tutorial for beginners who are not graphic artists, introductory guide on how to use the program.
http://members.cox.net/wcommerc/html/the_gimp.html
With digital photos it seems I am always needing a photo editor software to do simple things with the photos. Of course you can spend hundreds of dollars to get photo editing software, but there is an alternative. A very good alternative, The Gimp. What? The Gimp is an image manipulation program that is licensed under the General Public License (GPL) which means you can legally get it for free. Check out their website at www.gimp.org. Well, the software is very powerful, and kind of intimidating for us casual users, so I thought I would write an introductory guide on how to use it to do simple things that most, non-graphical artist like to do. This tutorial was done with The Gimp version 1.2.4 running on WindowsXP. Table of Contents: Learn more through other tutorials, find them at: Gimp Tutorials The Gimp Tutorials Pointer Page!
