    Beginner's Web Site Creating Guide
Welcome to Tizag.com's introduction to HTML and web design. This short tutorial is aimed to give newbies a little experience in writing HTML code, saving their files correctly, and viewing the completed works in a web browser. Regrettably this tutorial cannot teach you the basics of using a computer, so please be sure that you meet the following requirements:
    • Know what notepad is and how to use it
    • Know how to copy and paste text from a webpage (important!).
If you are lacking the ability of the aforementioned items please contact a local geek and ask nicely for a quick lesson.
    Tutorial Overview
In this tutorial you will be transcribing code into notepad and then viewing it with a web browser. The code is called HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and notepad is a commonly used text editor on Window PCs. HTML may seem confusing at first, but we will help you understand how it works in this step-by-step tutorial of how to make your first web page.
    Your First Web Page
To start off with copy the following HTML code into notepad. Be sure to copy the code exactly, otherwise your web page may not function correctly.

    Introduction
I believe strongly in the value of electronic mail in both corporate and personal domains. Email is cheaper and faster than a letter, less intrusive than a phone call, less hassle than a FAX. Using email, differences in location and time zone are less of an obstacle to communication. There is also evidence that email leads to a more egalitarian information structure. Because of these advantages, email use is exploding. By 1998, of adults in the United States and Canada had come on-line.

      What This Primer Doesn't Cover
This primer assumes that you have:
      • at least a passing knowledge of how to use NCSA Mosaic or some other Web browser
      • a general understanding of how Web servers and client browsers work
      • access to a Web server for which you would like to produce HTML documents, or that you wish to produce HTML documents for personal use
      Creating HTML Documents
HTML documents are in plain (also known as ASCII) text format and can be created using any text editor (e.g., Emacs or vi on UNIX machines). A couple of Web browsers (tkWWW for X Window System machines and CERN's Web browser for NeXT computers) include rudimentary HTML editors in a WYSIWYG environment. There are also some WYSIWIG editors available now (e.g. HotMetal for Sun Sparcstations, HTML Edit for Macintoshes). You may wish to try one of them first before delving into the details of HTML.

Short, focused tutorial that concentrates on the needs of the absolute beginner.
    http://www.carnall.demon.co.uk/how_to_learn_html.htm
    how to learn html
HTML stands for hypertext markup language. It's the language of the web. Learning it will empower you to publish your stuff on the web. It's easy to let the best be the enemy of the good. Even with something as straightforward to learn as HTML, many tutorials overload the beginner. The aim of this tutorial is to teach the bare minimum that you need to make web pages as quickly and easily as possible. The tutorial assumes basic competence with standard PC software like Windows or the Mac, but assumptions are dangerous things. Run through the tutorial here , if you're new to computers.
    Lesson 1
Try this: 1) get a text editor: Notepad (windows) SimpleText (mac), whatever. 2) Type "Already I am an HTML genius" 3) Save the file as genius.htm 4) Launch your web browser and use the open command on the file menu to open genius.htm 5) It all just goes on from there really. It's simply a matter of learning a few codes and using a text editor, e.g. BBEdit
    Lesson 2

So You Wanna Buy a Telescope... Advice for Beginners
    By Ed Ting Updated 2/2/02
So, you've decided to take the plunge and buy a telescope congratulations! Astronomy can be a life long pleasure, with the right equipment. But what to buy? And how do you not wind up with a room that looks like the above? There's more equipment out there than ever before. This article will attempt to make some sense out of the seemingly huge selection of scopes and accessories. Ready? Good. Let's begin. First of all, some words of advice: 1) Learn to spot a few constellations and maybe a planet or two with the naked eye. If you can't point to M42, how do you expect to able to point a telescope (which has a much narrower field of view) there? 2) Subscribe to one of the two major magazines, Sky and Telescope or Astronomy. These will get you started not only with finding celestial objects, it will also acquaint you with the variety of equipment out there. Don't buy anything yet! 3) Join if you know how to use them.

Want to make a website? It's not difficult. You can learn the basics pretty quickly, and that's what I'm going to show you. You don't need any special software, you don't need to go on a course : in fact you don't need to spend any money at all. All you need is a computer (practically anything will do), an internet connection (which presumably you already have, or else how are you looking at this page?), a browser (ditto), and a basic text editor like Windows Notepad. That's it! You're ready to go. I'm not going to try and teach you everything, just what you need to get a decent website up and running, with the emphasis very much on doing things the easy way - the "It still counts as a goal if it goes in off your bottom" approach. I'll try not to use jargon, but if I do say something you aren't sure about, you can look it up in my Dictionary of computer jargon . If you aren't too sure of yourself in Windows, have a look at
